It's just another spoof novel in the vein of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies .
 
I'm actually more interested in Queen Victoria: Demon Hunter by A.E. Moorat and the up-coming Paul is Undead by Alan Goldsher. They are having a great deal of fun with all these mash-ups and it's producing some interesting fantasy.
 
and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has as a sequel coming: Pride and Predjudice: Dawn of the Dreadfulls

I'm not sure if the genre is going to run out of steam any time soon...
 
I'm shopping a treatment to Random House called Margaret Thatcher: Mistress of Hell.
 
There's also Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters.

I'm waiting for Uncle Tom's Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

It's actually a prequel. I broke down and bought some the other night. They're a way back in the TBR pile, but I'll post when I've read them and I'll review them on my blog as well.

If a fad has existed longer than I've been alive, I don't consider it a fad. This is like people talking about the modern 'dark fantasy' fad when I know quite well that Elric came out in 1961, and before that there was pre-genre 'dark fantasy' like Lovecraft and Poe.

When have vampires not been popular?
 
Questions need to be asked about the book.

1) Has the genre hit the lowest common denominator? If not how far has it got to fall?

2) What sort of person buys such a book? Hopefully we can track them down and stop them reproducing ;)

More seriously if there are so many vampire hunters around, how is it that they manage to keep out of the media?

Me thinks most of the folks who enjoy such material are probably already on Darwin's hit list, and are reading on borrowed time. But who knows, it might be well written and worth a look, it certainly is getting rave reviews at amazon... not by the book critics of course.

Well it's good to know the whole slavery thing wasn't so compelling as was the specter of America being overrun by vampires. I'm going to take a wild guess that John Wilkes Booth gets a good old historical rewrite himself.

Can you imagine if Abraham Lincoln came back from the dead to see how the grand experiment of democracy turned out.
 
Hey, I read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I thought it was hilarious. Guess I'm part of the lowest common denominator 'cos I liked comparing it to the original.
 
Ah, God forbid writers spoof a modern work and occasionally inspire people to read the original un-edited version...
I am actually considering getting a few, whereas I would otherwise not consider them. Sense & Sensibility, you say? Pah! Give me Conan!
 
Personally I'd rather read Sense and Sensiblilty (without the seamonsters) than Conan. But Tarzan has my vote any day.

Pretty good, I'd assume.
In the "SF is dying..." topic, there's a lot of that.
Apparently the reason I like Mass Effect 2 is because I can't get a date on a saturday, and I must be thicker than a tree to actually enjoy it :rolleyes:
Or something.

I bought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies as a Christmas gift for my 74 year old mom and she loved it!

She read it clean through in two sittings.
