I started reading "The Dreaming Void" last night, but I've never read anything else by Hamilton. Will I be completely lost if I continue reading this, or should I have started with Pandora's Star?

You will be fine reading the Void books first. The Void takes place well after PS & JU. Really the only thing you would miss is a little more background on some of the characters.

I would highly recomment reading PS & JU at some point though.

Thanks! I was worried because a few reviews I read on Amazon said that I should read the others first. I will absolutely read those, I just had more of an interest in reading the trilogy first.

But by reading these first, I can easily understand the plot, correct?

Yeah: there are odd little things that will mean more to those who have read earlier books, but there are enough clues to see what's going on along the way: it should be fine.

Yes, the main plots are completely seperate. There was no "Void" to worry about in the previous books... Well, I suppose it had to be there but I dont remember it being mentioned.

I would say you'd be absolutely fine with Dreaming Void, but some things won't have the impact they should do when you come to Temporal Void. Of course, I'm saying that after reading them all and finding that I enjoyed the Commonwealth sections of Temporal because I has read Pandora's Star/Judas Unchained :)

Mark: I'm FINALLY reading Temporal Void: and enjoying it greatly. As I thought I would. :)

I read PS and JU and really enjoyed them. They were a little long in my opinion but I managed. I have the Void stuff but I have not started. I fear them!!! They are huge! For me those are months of commitment! But I will tackle at some point!

I would hold off until the last book, The Evolutionary Void, comes out to start reading them. The wait to find out how the story ends is killing me!
