Once it comes in the mail, I'll be reading Michael Moorcocks new fantasy THE SKRAYLING TREE . It's the sequel to The Dreamthief's Daughter. Can't wait 'til it comes.

So far this month I've read Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad (it was for school and dreadfully dull, long-winded and dreary), From a Buick 8 by Stephen King, which I liked, and Seamus Heaney's new translation of Beowulf, which was quite enjoyable. After I read a few more things for school I'm going to read Ursula Le Guin's Tales from Earthsea and The Other Wind, which I have in one edition from the SFBC.
 
Fritz is FANTASTIC!

Finished up the SFBC ominbus The Three of Swords by Fritz Leiber. Never read any of the Fafhrd & Mouser stories before this and...wow. Wow. WOW!! . Learn a lot about writing just by reading this stuff. I really hope SFBC reissues the follow-up Swords Masters soon.

If you aren't a member of the Science Fiction Book Club, this book alone is worth joining, as it is only available through the SFBC.
 
I finished up The Briar King a few days ago. All I can say is wow!

Next, since the last book in the Monarchies of God series just came out in paperback, I'm going to finish things up by reading The Second Empire & Ships from the West.
 
I've just finished "Ship of Magic" by Robin Hobb. It is the first i have read any of her stuff and i thoroughly enjoyed it..:)

I have just started on "The Kraken Wakes" by John Grisham, again. I read it 3 or 4 times but have not read it for about 10 years. It is one of my all time favourite reads, so when i came over a copy of it by accident last week, my friend walked away from me because i embarassed her;
"wow, look what i'v found!!! I can't believe it, i totally love this book!!!" - all the while dancing and jumping up and down in the middle of the shop.:D

Yes, but those books are not available in the US.

Finished up Sorcery Rising by Jude Fisher last night. I liked the book despite the plot being a bit on the slow side. Fisher's characterization was probably the strength of the novel. The world she created was well-done and the magic had the right amount of mystery. Overall, good stuff here and I plan on picking up the second book in hardcover.
 
Almost finished Stephenson's "Cryptonomicon" then I'm finishing L.E.Modesitt's Recluce series with "Fall of Angels" and "The Chaos Balance".
 
Just finished a book I’ve been meaning to read for some time, Tales of Dying Earth.
I’m a big fan of Vance and this is I think typical Vance. He’s not the most consistent writer in some ways but I accept that and still enjoy his stories.
The part of the book I liked most was the section devoted to Cugel. He’s a rotten b****** who’ll do anything to save his life or make a shilling. Vance constantly presents Cugel with a fortune and then snatches it away from him. A very good read with some parts better than others.

I've been using the book club selections as a way to pick new books to read. Unfortunately, I seem to be reading the ones that aren't getting picked by everyone else!

I read The Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart and I really liked it. It was unlike anything I have read before, and that's really saying something! Take fantasy add ancient Chinese fables and throw dry humor in and there you have this book. A real delight.

Also just finished A Cave of Black Ice by JV Jones. Wow! Jones is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. She can weave a complex tale without losing my interest or leaving me totally confused.

Now I'm starting on Richardo Pinto's The Chosen.
 
I just finished Stephenson's "Cryptonomicon". It is excellent. I am now reading Modesitt's "Fall of Angels". It is great so far.
 
I read two of the books in terry gookinds sword of truth series, and was dissapointed with the second one. i liked the first one because richard interracted a lot with zedd, but in the second one i don't even think they talked but one or two times. so, now i am out of books to read, so if you guys could give me some books in a series or just a stand alone book, that would be really great!

Already have finished 1984 by Orwell, and loved it for multiple reasons that I already got into on the Science Fiction board. I'm just in the beginning of The Illearth War by Donaldson, and liking it so far. After that, I'm thinking I might read a non-fiction book called Confederates in the Attic for extra credit in my US History class.

I just finished off Gardens of the Moon and I'll give my thoughts once the topic opens for the Book Club on Saturday. Damn good read!


I just started Lord of Emperors by Guy Gavriel Kay... the 1rst book of the duology was very well written and I expect this one to be as well.
