Richard Laymon's "The stake"

I ain't a fan of horror literature but, due to a misunderstanding, I've recently bought "The stake" by Richard Laymon: the comments I've read online make it not interesting (for my taste), so I'd like to know what do you think about this book.

I've never read the Stake, but I've read about 6 other novels of Laymon! He is definately an aquired taste. I like the way his characters go from normal circumstances to the supernatural to the extreme. perhaps you should check out other horor authors beside Laymon for a 'smoother' introduction to horror literature!
