I would hardly call Transmigration of Timothy Archer mainstream.
Maybe in comparison to PKD's other works...
but that's a pretty tripped out book and part of the Pink Ray Beam/Valis line,
which is pretty heavy duty out-there,
spaceshipless but not spaceless
(if you get my meaning).

Let's meet half way and call it speculative fiction.
