SFFWorld Members big Blog thread

I've been posting reviews for different story mediums that I am currently going through. Books, shows, documentaries, anime. I've also been keeping updates going about my progress with writing, writing contests and I mention any other author that I connect with online right here.

Hi, SFF,

A month ago I started a blog on science fiction and fantasy literature. http://scifanfiction.com/

I have two ideas so far that are working. The first is Saturday Science Fiction Scenes. Each Saturday I take pictures from Earth and imagine what they would be like on an alien planet. The second is Sunday Reddit Rewrite. In that idea, I offer writing help to new science fiction and fantasy writers on Reddit, then rewrite some of their paragraphs.

Can I get some feedback on my blog layout? I'm currently using a free template from Wordpress. Also any other ideas for serial blog posts in the area of science fiction and fantasy literature? Thanks!

Hey guys!

I'm journalist and writer from Finland, currently using some of my spare time to work on a blog called Scifist, where I try to cover the history of SF films through films reviews. I started with Georges Méliès' short films from the end of the 19th century and have been working my way chronologically forwards in time. It's not something I actively promote, the idea being that if someone is really interested in learning more about these films they will find it.

But I would love to hear your comments on it as I take it people here are experts in these matters. I would be very happy if you would check it out and leave a comment here or on the blog. You can find it here: https://scifist.wordpress.com/

Cheers!

Thank you for that link, Janne: I enjoyed the look through the website - i enjoy a good (or even a bad!) old movie, and there's lots there I didn't know about. I enjoyed reading about El Supersabio as I've never seen Cantinflas in anything other than Around the World in 80 Days! Good work: keep it up.

Hey Carp, just wanted to give a little feedback on your site after flipping through it. I like the content that you're putting out, the sci fi scene is a cool thought and can bring a lot of people in from twitter or reddit, like you seem to be doing. If I may say, the template is a little plain. Does the picture at the top have anything to do with sci fi? Perhaps you can change it to a starscape or planets? Your sidebars on the right repeat themselves, you have categories, archives, and something else listed twice. Also, when someone clicks on the 'Saturday Sci fi' or 'Sunday rewrite' button, it doesn't actually show any of the posts for those that you've done. It's just a static page describing what the idea behind it is, but if someone wants to actually read the Saturday posts they have to look through your sidebar at categories, browse the archives, or just continuously scroll your home page. Juuuuuust a few thoughts after looking at you site.

In my corner of the internet, I wrote a multi-layered post today about starting an intern position at gameskinny.com as a gaming journalist, the horror stories I've been writing and just what makes a story a "horror", and posted some artwork coming out for my novel here. All cool stuff, but I feel it may be last time I post for a while. I'm really into these stories I'm working on and I feel this intern position might take up more time than I imagine....

Posted a new entry (first update in ages!) on my Bleeding Edge Blog about:

Tree Rings, Carbon Dating, and the Age of the Universe.

Enjoy!

I've interning at several video game news sites the past few weeks writing articles and opinion pieces for them, and it's been awesome! I'm still writing and blogging as well, but most of the blogging as been geared towards gaming. It's incredibly cool to be all over the internet nowadays. I blogged about the upcoming SFFWORLD anthology that I'm in and how it's getting traction out there in the world of Twitter, and I got sent a pic from someone reading my book overseas. Talk about easy promotion!
