Tommy Catkins...

[Woelf]

Hello everyone! This is my first post. I aim to contribute more to the forum in general, as well. This and a few other things are all part of my 2017 drive to be more productive and involved in my genres. As for my blog post, I've been running a series called "Art of Fantasy" where I showcase fantasy art and artists. I've been doing it for almost two years. This one is the latest installment in the series.

[Jo Zebedee]

I'm joined by Bryan Wigmore, who talks about using shamanic rituals in his book, The Goddess Project (one of the best fantasy books I've come across)

You got me very interested. For the past 10 years I'm researching shamanic rituals for the same purpose of writing fantasy. I will be glad to comment on this book. Can I read some free sample of the story to decide whether to buy the full version?

Hi Fish Owl. Jo alerted me to your question. (And got me to sign up here at last -- hurray!) There's a "look inside" feature on Amazon (linked to at the bottom of Jo's blog post), and a preview on the book's page in Goodreads, that will give you the first two-and-a-bit chapters. The first shamanic section is in the second half of chapter two. I hope you like it, but it is more a beginner's take on shamanism rather than an in-depth exploration of the rituals of a particular culture.

I'd be interested to read your thoughts!

The story of my bones -- this post is from 2014, but I haven't mentioned my blog here before, and y'all seem like the audience to appreciate this. (This is my other-name blog.) Cheers.

Such a good book!

Sffworld's own @Juliana guested for me today on all the firsts she's facing. Good luck with the launch, Ju! Another great book.

Thanks for having me on your blog, Jo. (And for pointing me to this section, which I hadn't explored yet!)

Here's a thoughtful review of my Erm Kaslo novel, A WIZARD'S HENCHMAN (PS Publishing, 2016) by the erudite sff aficionado and critic James Nicoll.

I won't be posting news and reviews here much anymore. I'll be putting the effort into a monthly newsletter sent to readers who sign up for it. I'm told it's a much better way of reaching out than Facebook and Twitter.

If you'd like to be on the list, send me an email at matthewhughes [at] archonate [dot] com and put "Newsletter" in the subject line.

Or you can go to the InstaFreebie site and sign up while getting a free download of my 2006 space opera standalone novel, TEMPLATE, in mobi, epub, or pdf format.

Hope you'll still be hanging around here. ??

Oh, yes. This is more recreation than blatant self-promotion. The "here" referred to FB and my web page.

Review of The Goddess Project by Bryan Wigmore

I read the book in manuscript a few years ago, so it may have changed some in revisions, but it was an excellent book then and I imagine it is just as good or better now.
