Yes, your post about the podcast was in the Crota thread of the Promotion Zone and later moved here. I liked it over there and the like transferred along with it.

Looks as if I'll be starting the new year on a promising note. I'm going to make a deal with Pulp Literature Press, an up and coming Canadian small publisher, for my big historical novel (with slipstream elements), What the Wind Brings.
This is a big deal for me, in that the novel is pretty much a life's work.

It's based on incidents I first heard about in 1971 or 1972, as a footnote in a university textbook. The core gist: shipwrecked African slaves melded with the indigenous peoples of coastal Ecuador in the mid 1500s, and together they fought the Spanish colonial power to a standstill, to remain independent, basically, for centuries.

After more than forty years of thinking about the story, I was lucky enough to receive a C$25,000 Canada Council grant to write the book. I did five drafts, which is three more than I usually do. It's a hell of a story, my magnum opus, the one I want to be remembered for.

We're probably looking at a summer 2019 release. I'll keep updating on the process and trying to stimulate pre-orders. As I say, it's a meaningful event for me -- not financially, but in terms of my being able to think I've done something worthwhile.

Congratulations, Matthew!! I am looking forward to pre-ordering What the Wind Brings.

You have some valid points, Stephen, about China's political system making it more efficient to take action. I would like to point out China does reportedly have a lot of pollution Despite the attitudes individuals in China are supposed to have about nature. Ironically, many of those nature lovers are stuck inside polluting factories for very long hours day in and day out, as decreed by the efficient government. For me, the biggest issue is the individual's human rights. What good is it having humans survive if there is predominantly suffering and virtual slavery? And they don't all survive. The Chinese government recently condemned a Canadian citizen to death for political reasons. Yes, they pretended to go through a court, but the timing of pulling him out of prison from his fifteen-year sentence to re-try, along with other Canadians being held makes it obvious it's retribution for rude comments from our government that probably shouldn’t have been made publicly. Anyway, to summarise, to me, the loss of individual rights just isn't a price I can agree with to have the ability available to do a fix if they should ever decide to do it.

On another note, I have part one of a Review of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy up on my Wordpress blog.

I may have posted earlier with a blog link, but I'm using a different blogsite now, and I know it's not in here. I'm now at StevenLyleJordan.blog, where I wax on about science matters and science fiction, and mention my books here and there.
