Should I continue? [Goodkind]

At the moment I'm stuck on Soul of The Fire and i cant get past the first couple of pages before i put it down and seek another book to read. I was just wondering if its worth putting in the effort to continue reading the book to get to the rest of the series or is it just not worth it.

I personally really liked Wizards First Rule, its one of my favorite books, and don't necessarily hate the series I just find that many of its concepts are getting to be too unoriginal. what i also hate is trying to get past the first 100 pages of each book made after WFR when he uses half the space to tell the reader things they have already read. it feels as if hes trying to make it so they can all be stand alone books but for me, who has read the previous books, it really annoys me.

Back to the topic is it worth trying to get past the first 100 pages and reading the rest of the series, does it get better later in the series or should I just give up.

I have no experience with this book or this author however, as a reader, I've found that forcing one's attention onto a book isn't a good idea. It could be you just aren't in the mood for this kind of thing right now, and you'll come back to and enjoy it later. Or it could be the book isn't worth your time. Pleasure reading is just that, when it becomes a chore stop and pick up something else.

I've read the books, and while there are one or two stinkers, soul of the fire was actually my 3rd or 4th favorite, it is really good! I think if you plan on finishing the series, or have liked the previous books, you should continue, I thought it was excellent!

yeah i think i might continue, its just the first 100 pages i dont like... in the end iin the like the books i just thought it might start to get bad towards the latter books. and if they are still as good as the earlier books then yeah i will continue.

i agree in many ways at what your saying hes just getting more money for each word but if u cnat stand reading all the extra crap skip a book maybe cause it will tell you every thing anyhow . i never would but im just putting it out there

In the later books, there are a couple I really just did not like. But I think so far it was only three that I haven't liked total out of what 11 or so books in the series? (Well I have to read the last three still)

Wizard's First Rule was reallllly great, Stone of Tears is my favorite, Blood of the Fold, I didn't like, and Temple of the Winds was okay, but you've already passed those obviously. Soul of the Fire I liked better than Temple of the Winds, I thought it was really interesting. After that, Faith of the Fallen is tied for my favorite. I just loved it. Amazing. Then Pillars of Creation and Naked Empire I didn't like. They seemed very dry and boring most of the time, but I am determined to read the whole series, so I went through them.

I think the main thing that continuing has got going for it is that I cant really bare to just stop and give up reading a series. Even if i was to pick it up and put it back down for the rest of my life at least I haven't totally given up. : I don't like just not knowing everything I can.

I agree with somethings you said vanilla like how wizards first rule is great but personally i hated alot of stone of tears (i think its cause of the jordan copies i.e:sisters of light/dark) and quite liked blood of the fold. I am indifferent to temple of the winds, not great but not that bad.

I also like the idea of skipping a book mike. nice. I might not be able to pull it off though, as I said I have an Incessant need to know everything, I'd probably just end up going back and reading the book I skipped.

Haha, yes I've heard most people liked Blood of the Fold, but I don't know I just didn't really... but I'm not saying it was bad like the last two I've read. And for Stone of Tears yeah everyone has different tastes and all, but I don't really buy into the whole "copying" thing, I mean whoever wrote their book first, the whole Light/Dark side thing will always have earlier roots. I mean it's a part of life, and a lot of key themes such as light and dark are used in books, so people should expect to see them more than once. Even if it got more specific with making Orders of Light and Dark, even that isn't new, even that goes way back into history... so I don't get all huffy when I see authors with similar things. For example, I once heard someone flaming a book which had dwarves and elves in it. They claimed this copied Tolkien! Are you going to tell me that just because Tolkien (who was not the frist to use these) used these, no other fantasy book can ever contain them?! Now that is ridiculous. I know you probably don't think that person was right, just giving a true example of my experience with such things.

I mean, if we are going to really get into it, the whole book would be in shambles just as every other book or story with a magic sword. What about excalibur? So really... it's inevitable that you will see similarities, even very close similarities.

haha i feel the very same way i cant read a great book and then put it down just becasue of a few parts i didnt care for, i need to no everything also i just no some people who can read the end of a book ( i dont no how ) even though meybe wasting some times going i just read a page that told me of the previous book it doent bother me, and my personal faverite so far is Wizards first rule when i think back its all i liek to remember. Even thought i read all the books slowly not to miss a bit number two : stone of tears, just doesnt speak to me i can remember the whole book it just wasnt all that eventful, blood of the fold wasnt at all bad but i find it might how switched storys from brogan to verna to richard to zedd and ann way to fast and you were going all over the place. but still alll i have to say is great series with its pros and cons: ups and downs

true very true. i dont mind the whole light and dark thing as im not bonded by religion. and i like what terry did to not add elves though( i agree with you that every author has the righti just like that this isnt original) i like how he had mysrath( parden spelling) and gars and the sypht and things and all those different races add to the book making it greater then having elves be all powerful. i guess what im saying is im clad the books are not so cliche even though they can cliche on themselves at parts.
