I have a natural aversion to anyone who perceives their own work as art... I'm not sure why, it just seems so arrogant, especially in writing and music.
Just get on with it but save the whole 'my art' diatribe for someone who cares. I have a huge trunk filled with respect for Jeff Vandermeer and his books, but I couldn't give two sh*ts for its artistic content. I though Veniss was spectacular, I loved the experiment of the POVs and the structure... City of Saints was just as good in parts, boring as hell in others.
Snobs and elitists hate me, becuase I want to be entertained rather than educated... I also write to entertain and nothing deeper... I'd rather be in a room with entertaining people than a bunch of elitist literati...
And I don't class myself as an idiot... I have an MSc and a few academic essays to my name, but I don't class myself as a genius either... I definitely don't consider myself an ar-teest... I am a musician and a writer... nothing more and nothing less.
To me, it's a bit like the guys who go on about how cool they are and try and define what it means to be cool... if you think you are... you ain't... same with these so-called artists.
Yawn.
