Looking to start the Drenai series and was wondering if I should read them in chronological order or in publication order. Been kicking the idea for both around for a while now and would like some insight before I commit to the series.

To be honest I think you can read them in any order - they are pretty much stand alones with no real spoilers that would ruin other books. I guess if you want to follow an order go chronological....

Thanks friend; since you put it that way I'll start with Legend and see where I want to go from there.

Hi Kev. Just to be contrary, my usual advice with any author is to read the books in the order they were published. Writers develop over time and you can often see that in their writing. Legend's a pretty good place to start (and it definitely has its favourites), but IMO there are books in the series that are better, I think: bear that in mind as you read!

I'd normally read in Author's preferred order, or published order. Unless the publisher was particularly idiotic. I go by the Copyright dates.

It likely doesn't make a huge difference on these. I've enjoyed the few I have read and have more here awaiting me.

Certainly The Chronicles of Narnia, Pern series, Dune series and the Magic of Recluce series should be read in published order.

Thank you for your insight everyone. I have since finished Legend and I did enjoy it very much. Like most others I really liked the character Druss so I might go back and read the prequels about him before starting The King Beyond The Gate.
