Which of his books are the funniest?

I've read-
Witches Abroad
Carpe Jugulum
Marskerade

And thought they were hilarious :D

I've also tried reading Eric, Guards, Guards and the Death Trilogy and only found them mildy amusing

So which are the funniest books?

I think the ones you read first are the funniest.

You giggle out loud for the first four novels no matter which they are and then it becomes more of the same and you have to giggle internally with the occasional snort.

I like anything with Death or Witches best but I read Guards, Guards first and I still think that was hilarious.

If he'd been like Douglas Adams and stopped at 4 then died, invented International Towel Day and written one more novel... they'd probably get more attention and be a movie by now.

Mind you... dropping dead is an awful lot of trouble to go to just to get a movie deal. I think Terry's probably better off continuing to feed the habits of his readers. :D

Actually, The Amazing Maurice was very funny.

Yeah, Pratchett can get tired really quickly... I've tried reading some of his latest stuff, but my brain starts zoning, and I'm tempting to smack the next person that walks past... :o

Having said that, my favourites generally involve the Night Watch. Gotta love Samuel Vimes!

Yes... he waxes and wanes and right now he seems to be waxing... and even when he is waning readers are generally mildly amused.

I've only read the first few discworld books (I'm trying to read them in order) and so far "Mort" is my absolute favorite.

Of course, my appreciation of Pratchett's book is in direct relation to my mood. I can't just pick them up any time. I have to be a specific silliness zone to read them. However, when I'm in that zone, for me there's nothing better.

Reading the DISCWORLD books in order is my recommended way to go. It gives a good sense of Pratchett's evolution as a writer. The early books are straight out sword'n'sorcery parodies, mostly played for laughs.

As the series goes along, the setting becomes more of a forum for Pratchett, allowing him to explore themes and ideas that interest him. Not that this is a bad thing, his writing improves, the humour gets more wry, and on the whole they are better books.

"GUARDS! GUARDS!", "PYRAMIDS" and "THIEF OF TIME" are up there with his funniest DISCWORLD books.

I'd also recommend "GOOD OMENS" which was co-written with Neil Gaiman.

I have read almost all the discworld books and the first book that springs to mind is "Hogfather" which I thought was hilarious, an excellent parody on our own fairy tail creatures such as the tooth fairy and father Christmas.

I believe this book is part of the death series as it revolves around Susan, the granddaughter of Death.

I have read almost all of them, in a completely random order. Of the older books I still have to read: Witches Abroad, and Wyrd Sisters. Of the newer books I need to read The Truth, Thief of Time, and Night Watch. I started one of these but there were some criminals and one kept going "*ing" every other word. It was annoying in terms of the flow of the dialog, and I just wanted to slap the character, and TP - because he didn't have the courage to actually use a real swear. So I put it down and other than Monsterous Regiment I haven't really been reading him. One day I want to re-read them all in order.

The funniest I think is Pyramids.

I also thought Small Gods and Interesting Times and Reaper Man were funny. They are also my favorites. Not sure if they were my first or not. Pyramids was a relatively recent read.

I'd have to say Mort or Hogfather...but I think all of his books (that I've read) are on my top 50 list.

Equal Rites and anything else with Granny Weatherwax or the Librarian

Ooook!

Yes... the librarian, that one character can be so intelligent and convey so much using only one single syllable word...

Even though it was co-written with Neil Gaiman, I have to say that 'Good Omens' has to be if not at the top of the list definitely close to it.

Good Omens, Carpe Jugulum and Interesting Times get my vote as the top three.

you really need to hear them

I've read just about everything that Pratchett has written and I laughed out loud at most, but I didn't laugh nearly as hard until I picked one up on CD at the library. I would suggest the Adam's books also, when it comes to listening. The witty dialogue justs works better when heard. As for my favorites, I'd have to say Interesting Times and Lords and Ladies

When I first read Mort I nearly had a urine based incident I was laughing so much. Also Guard,Guards,Guards is very funny as well as Interesting times.

I think Feet of Clay is the funniest book I've read ( I've read all the City Watch books:Guards!Guards!, Men at Arms, Feet of Clay, Jingo, The Fifth Elephant, and Night Watch; and Mort). I just love the character of Vimes. He is hilarious.

I've read only three of his books:Witches Abroud,Guards!Guards! and Lord and Ladies,..and I think that this one Lords and Ladies is the best,it isn't the most funniest but the characters are great :)

1)Interesting times - His best book ever in my modest opinion.
2)Night Watch - Just for the attempted assaination at the start.
3)Going Postal - His most reccent book and an excellent read Vetinari really is an excellent character.

And you Adams fans should know he wrote more than just the Hitchiker series he also wrote a series about Derk Gentley a Private Invesigator but I haven't read any of that yet. Damn library and lack of money.
