I've started reading The Last Herald Mage trilogy. Do you guys have any thoughts about it? Is there a past thread that you can direct me too? I've temporarily run out of things to read. tLHM was one of those series I've always thought about reading, but just never got around to it.

If you like stories about quiet repressed teenagers being taken away to nerdvanna where they can get good grades and meet imaginary friends in the form of telepathic horses with whom these completely mental teenagers immidiatly form tender yet platonic bonds in leau of developing any real social skills all before confronting the metaphorical schoolyard bully and shrilly telling him off like an abused wife kicking her dead beat husband out of the trailer, then this series is for you.

I thought this series was pretty good, but not as good as some of Lackey's other stuff that I've read. I enjoyed the Arrows trilogy and By the Sword more. The series has been classified as fluff...it's not very deep and the plot is very simplistic. I, however, think there's always room for fluff

my favorite fantasy series ever...
totally disagree with midas- it's directed towards young teens, so i understand how it's appeal is lessened now, but it really reaches its intended audience, at least in my opinion (i read it when i was 11).
I think it presents important issues in a way that's simplistic and obvious, yet accessible to younger audiences.
I love her characters and I love her magic and world. Valdemar's my absolute favorite world ever.

My worst fantasy series ever...

Gave it up after about 50 pages. The first and I hope the last time I ever do that.I don't know for whom she wrote the series. It certainly didn't work for me.

Thanks all. This is what I was afraid of. Oh well. All three books are in one volume, so I'll at least read the first book.
