Literature:
Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen. As girly and cliche as it is, I love this novel. Every time I read it, I screech in girly, toe-scrunching delight. I giggle and cry. Every time.
The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas. This is another toe-scrunching delight. I'll be honest, when reading this book I am known to put it down and starting leaping around the room with an imaginary foil.
High Fidelity, Nick Hornby. Since I'm a music geek, this novel very much appeals to me.
Genre Lit:
The Blue Sword, Robin McKinley. I first read this Newberry Honour book when I was ten. It is one of those books I read twice a year. This book appeals to any girl who wants to be the knight in shining armour.
Rendezvous with Rama, Arthur C. Clarke. Arthur C. Clarke is in my personal top three authors list. Pretty much everything he has written is gold in my books. However, the social commentary found in the Rama trilogy I find very poignant.
The Lions of Al-Rassan, Guy Gavriel Kay. Kay's version of El Cid appeals to me in every level. 1) It's based on an actual folk hero. 2) It has an elegant, yet economic writing style. 3) It has a strong female protagonist. 4) The sex scenes are tasteful. 5) I just love it. I read it about once a year.
