• The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
• The Dying Earth (series) by Jack Vance
• The Book of the New Sun (including its coda, The Urth of the New Sun) by Gene Wolfe

Not all that much movement on the list this week, although a very recent publication, The Name of The Wind by Partick Rothfuss, has snuck into 10th place... probably one of my favorite books this year.

As an editorial note, given that I am not familiar with all of the books posted here, if you see anything that needs to be changed, please let me know, as any and all help is appreciated.

No love for Stover makes me sad. In my book, he's 'beat' by George R R Martin, but only just. I'd go so far as to say my first two picks are in a league of their own as compared with anything I've ever read... (easy fellas, I don't post much )

I'm reading Farseer and just don't get it. Reading book 3 right now... and just don't get it...

Just not that good...It feels like whole kingdom has 100 people. Logic behind some actions is just none existent.
Ok you can always rationalize about things and find arguments for some bad decision and try to make sense of it, but still some other course of action makes 100X more sense.

Only one time it did make sense, when Fitz didn't act on first instinct...spoiler... and latter id did make sense- only ones... but this book is about nonsense or no sense at all. Rationalization of stupidity... Plot is a bit stupid...
+ I like to learn about the people and characters and settings from characters eyes and dialog... why bother explainig...

Startide for mind blowing world building (original, lots of ideas flying about), Dune ditto (even more intrigue!), and Troopers for the incredibly strong POV.
