Looking for the title or author of a book I read years ago. The only things about it that I recall were (a) something about a Traveler Wave or Traveler Beam - where beings had to be converted into a signal to travel between galaxies (b) people had to be liquefied in order to be accelerated fast up to some extreme speed (c) a vehicle(?) that could make you insane if you attempted to board it. It was a fascinating story that I would love to read again. Any clues would be appreciated. Thanks

That sounds like Macroscope by Piers Anthony.
