Maybe phil_geo's point would be better made if it we substituted the word 'ability' for 'skill'.

Where did the term "layman" come from?

1. : a person who is not a member of the clergy
2. : a person who does not belong to a particular profession or who is not expert in some field

Are we supposed to believe that electrical engineers find structural engineering difficult to understand?

I went to Catholic schools. They didn't teach science at my grade school. I got it from science fiction books.

The clergy were dummies but had a serious attitude problem.

Like the ability to smell (or not) asparagus in your own urine. (And as superpowers go it's a pretty rubbish one.) If you can't smell that smell, no amount of trying is going to make your nose work so that you can.

Yeah, that's an interesting one (took me a while to figure out why the smell, as I only starting eating asparagus a few years ago)!

Did you also know that the exact same smell occurs from the dye from a CT scan (presume it's the same chemical) - found that out a month ago after I had an appendectomy.
