The Rig (2023) . Episode 1.
 
The Great Game was brilliant. How based on reality I don't know, but if so: wow. The depths these agents go to, the way football players are passed around like pawns on a chessboard or currency in a bank, the whole dark underworld beneath the glamour and glitz of Italian Serie A and other FIFA leagues. Superb. And a great ending, quite unexpected. Subtitle Spy (Copyright Trollheart Enterprises, MMXXIII() reports that the subtitles were a little small and not always legible, though these times were few and far between, and apart from a few words and maybe one sentence, there was nothing I couldn't follow.

Now watching season 2 of Gangs of London, and if anything, it's more violent than season one - and I'm enjoying every minute of it!
 
Been home this last week so we binge watched the first 4 seasons of Yellowstone. There are are parts of this series I like quite a bit. The cutting horse scenes are spectacular. The scenery is amazing and I like the 4 Sixes storyline. Overall good story though...even the silly parts.

That said, I could build a better barbwire fence at 10 yrs old than that whole bunkhouse of cowboys. Hollywood misses a lot of the little things that give film authenticity, I think.

Finished off the current Yellowstone last night. Cliffhanger episode. I haven't been able to find much on when they will release the the next half season. Only found a single blurb saying late 2023.

Same here. We are watching 1923 as well. Only a single episode in though.

I did read on the Bosque Ranch Productions site that they were planning a 6666 spin-off about the founding of that iconic ranch. Looking forward to that. Been a favorite side story during Yellowstone.
 
Finished Gangs of London. Wow! Two SERIOUS twists (end of episode 2, end of episode six) that I did NOT see coming. AND an ending I could not have predicted. And even more hyper-hyper violence. What's not to like?

Decided to dive into House of the Dragon. I'm finding it hard going to be honest. I wish so much of it wasn't shot in almost total darkness; very hard to follow what's going on. Dragons are good, though there's not enough of them, character relationships as usual confusing and hard to keep track of, not enough action. Overall, less impressed that I had expected to be. Also odd that they use the GOT theme, though I see it's subtitled Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon. Still, you'd think Ramin could have got up off his arse and written some new music, wouldn't you?
 
THE RIG [ Amazon UK ]

Not great , but reasonably entertaining . Essentially , it's a ' base under siege ' thriller with fairly obvious references to Silent Running , Lovecraft , Alien and other first contact movies . Add a sinister Company man and some soap opera froth and you've got THE RIG .

A second season will depend on ratings .

THE DEVIL'S HOUR [ Amazon UK ]

Felt this was a bit padded out and wonder if , rather than watching the 6 episodes , you could get away with watching episodes 1 and 6 .

On the plus side , Peter Capaldi was superb .
 
Finished watching season 3 of True Detective. Liked it very much though perhaps not as much as seasons 1 and 2. The different ages/eras was very clever though at times a little confusing. Great acting from the two leads. Now watching season 2 of Upright, very enjoyable. Also current new season of Silent Witness.

Pilot episode. This was pretty good, although I could have done with less lectures about chemical changes in decaying bodies.
 
Absolutely loved the first episode of The Last of Us. Both games are some of my favourite storytelling in video games of all time, so I'm excited to see more of the show and how they decide to go with it.

My wife and I have also been watching Season 3 of Succession. The show has been good and was recommended to us as we both really enjoyed Yellowstone and apparently the family dynamics are similar. It's one of those shows though where everyone is just a horrible human being.
 
Watching an older series of TV movies called "Jesse Stone" with Tom Selleck. 9 movies filmed between 2005-2015 with Selleck as an ex-LAPD Homicide detective with a drinking problem and an ex-wife. He loses his job in LA and takes a Police Chief job in Paradise, Massachusetts.

Paradise is a small coastal community of 5500. Mostly a fishing village, but with a heavy tourist season.

Watched "Night Passage" the night before last. Prequel movie about how he ended up in Paradise. Apparently the first movie was popular enough that a prequel was filmed the following year. We just watched the prequel first for continuity of the storyline

The we watched "Jesse Stone: Stone Cold" last night. Pretty standard cop/detective flicks just made all that much better by Selleck's character. Good shows.

I liked those, especially the first one, Stone Cold. There's a moodiness in the production that you seldom see in made-for-tv movies and that really fit an older Selleck.

For myself, just finished season 2, episode 1 of the 1960s The Avengers and look forward to finally seeing the Cathy Gale years.

We finished Season 3 of Succession last night. It wasn't too bad, new season comes out in March so not long to wait for more. We're about to start the third and final season of His Dark Materials. Hoping it holds up compared to the previous two seasons, because it's been probably the best TV show adaption I have seen of a fantasy novel series. Highly recommend if you haven't checked it out.

I started watching the Wheel of Time on Prime Video, and I’m a couple of episodes in so far. It seems pretty interesting, and the special effects are impressive.

I have to admit, I’ve never read the books. This seems to be good as I don’t know how many changes they have made from the source material. I can view this on its own merits, and so far it seems like it has potential.

I also hadn't read the books but I enjoyed the show. It's one of those typical thing where huge fans of the book seemed to a have a lot of negatives to say about the show because I think some things were changes or rushed. But as far as fantasy shows go, I thought it was pretty solid.

My wife and I watched the first 4 episodes of Poker Face, really enjoying it so far, looking forward to more episodes. It's by Rian Johnson, the same guy that did Knives Out and Glass Onion.

The protagonist has an uncanny ability to tell whenever someone is lying. She is on the run from a casino mob boss and each episode is her stopping into some random town or city, and while she is there, she ends up solving a murder.

The first third of the episode shows the lead up and conclusion of the murder, and the second two thirds are her working out exactly who did it and why. It's an interesting take on the whole who dunnit since you know up front, but really enjoyable show, highly recommend.
