Twenty-one years ago...

I am rubbish at noticing these dates as they pass me by. But as of 16th August, I have now written reviews for 21 years at SFFWorld.

My first official review was for China Mieville's Looking for Jake, a short story collection, which went online about the same time as I travelled to the 2005 Worldcon that year in Glasgow.

As it is Worldcon next weekend, it seems appropriate that I resurrect the review, whilst I inwardly wince...

Congratulations @Hobbit! This certainly seems the year for milestones for you.

I read that first review of yours and I have to agree with @Westy. Even in your first outing you had a definitive style and a strong voice as a reviewer. You reviewed not only the then-new collection but also the then-new genre of New Weird and this collection's place within it. You style today is more streamlined, imo, but you have always provided a cohesive and complete summation of the book you're reviewing.

All that said, were you reviewing books for other sites or people before SFFWorld?

Thanks, RM. I try to be a little more streamlined in my writing these days, unlike myself, who is definitely less streamlined than I was 21 years ago. .

No, not really. In fact, I put off writing reviews for a long time - I had been asked before - because I was worried that reviewing would affect my reading. It may have a little, but not to any great effect, I hope.

Must admit, it is odd now reading of New Weird as something new, as it also does Grimdark.
