I was just wondering if these 2 books are similar in structure. I thoroughly disliked Neverwhere due to its repetitive questlike structure. I found it completely average. I enjoy Vandermeer's other work, but Veniss just seems very similar in concept to Neverwhere... are their structures(quests, running from here to there trying to avoid baddies) similar?

I'd have to say no. I'm not sure why you'd form an association between them to be honest.
Veniss Underground also has a very different tone and feel to Neverwhere. The way the narrative is structured in three acts, each told from a different viewpoint and voice is also one of its highlights. Definitely worth reading.
We've previously discusssed it in the book club, where Jeff Vandermeer was kind enough to join in to discuss.

Disclaimer: Veniss Underground is one of my favourite books. Ever.

I figured their topics were similar enough... maybe I confused Veniss with Venice : ).

Very different...

At any rate - I think Veniss Underground is a very good book, and worth a read. Not knowing you, I'm not sure how it would fit to your particular tastes. Library?

Veniss Underground is actually SF, if some seriously crazy SF, while Neverwhere is fantasy.

Both are dealing with the underground of cities, but they are totally differnet.
Both great books though.

I didn't like Neverwhere, ans also didn't like veniss Underground, so they have that in common :-)

For me, Veniss was all 'cool' ideas and almost no plot, and no interesting characters. I found the entire underground journey to be a type of horror travelogue, adding almost nothing to the story. And the changing Ist, 2nd, 3rd person narration could have been interesting, but...wasn't.

I feel exactly the same about it.

Mm, that is kinda the way I felt about Neverwhere.. I guess if I continue to like Shriek through the the end, I should go try Saints and Madmen then.
