What does everyone think of James Barclay?

Actually Ware, the first book in the series, Dawnthief is available in the US as a trade paperback. Gollancz, the UK publisher, is distributing it to the US through another company.

Just saw it in my local B&N and you could probably get it from amazon.com.

Having been in the states I have only just has a chance to read Elfsorrow as one of my christmas presents and have to say Nom - you've cracked it. I couldn't put it down and the changing of the team dynamic was excellently done this time, the whole story was in keeping with the Raven and the narrative sped along at a hectic pace. I read below that someone said there isn't another book after this, that can't be true, can it ? It better not, I think Elfsorrow was one of the best books I've read all year(and thats a fair few just to clarify ;) ) As the hip yanks would say: Big props man :D Keep'em coming please.

Thanks for your kind words.

As to a sequel, there most certainly is one. It'll be called Shadowheart and will be out (in the UK) in July 2003.

After that, there's just one more Raven book before I give them a rest...

Happy New Year to all, by the way.

WOOHOO!

*hugs NOM*

Just in time for my birthday :D

So what's the next project once the Raven are set aside.....?

Geez Sammie - talk about pushy.

Not that you'd want to pressure him at all, of course. :D

*offended*

I was just making conversation!! I'm interested!

*pout*

Sorry Sammie, but there's not much news I can give right now - it'll be a fantasy, probably a duology. I've not talked to my agent or publishers yet and so have no certain contract or what have you but I'll keep you posted here and on my website.

It'll be hard to leave The Raven behind. It'll feel very strange, I think, writing about other heroes and villains, other worlds and systems. Scary too, because it'll be a journey into the unknown. But overall, it'll be really exciting, a bigger challenge and a chance, I hope, to show that there's more to me than The Raven (much as I love them utterly).

Pah I read the chronicles, but Elfsorrow is still on my shelf. Reading the last few posts it would be in my interest to reda it quick it seems hehe.

Could always do a separate Triology - and a climax book further down the line with the Raven and the new characters actually meeting!!! *grins* lol

Sounds good to me :D I've already started to try and imagine what the title could suggest. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a book a year considered quite prolific? I mean David Gemmell writes one every 18months or so, Feist about the same - are you inspired at the moment? Good luck with the new one and roll on July.

Question for NOM!!

Amazon has Shadowheart down as Chronicles of the Raven. Should that not be Legends??

*confused*

Hi Sammie,

Yes, that's a cock-up. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll get on to my publishers to get it sorted.

Okay since I'm new here and this is my first post - I thought I'd say hi first.
Hi :D
Anyway I love the Raven Chronicles (as mentioned by my love of a certain elf in my signature) and I just finished reading Elfsorrow!
I love all of the characters and the fact that they are more "real" than most "heroes".

Hi Khallandra :)

Yeah - i love the 'realness' of the Raven, as well. They have far more faults than a lot of 'heros' - it makes them more believable.

There's a thread here where you can say a proper 'hi' to all, if you like.

Enjoy the site :)

Sammie.

NOM ( I ask again, did you chose that name because of Tolkien?),

Can you tell us anything about Shadowheart? More of the excellent Elves?

Hey Mithfanion,

NOM came from two things. In my arcade machine playing days, it became my handle because you could only choose three letters and these three are handily close together. And second, they handily spell the capitalised version of a certain Sand Gorgon in the Covenant books which I was much into at the time.

Oh, there is a third thing now I think of it. I had a character in a role playing game who's name may just have crept into the odd book, who was nicknamed 'No Mercy' after his penchant in one scenario for taking out minotaurs in double quick time while receiving no damage whatever in return. The nickname was subsequently shortened...

As for Shadowheart, yes I can confirm there is plenty more of the elves (and I'm glad you think them excellent, thanks for that) of all sorts, TaiGethen, Al Arynaar and ClawBound. It's based around the race to raise the Heart of Julatsa but naturally, this being The Raven, it isn't as simple as that... A few other questions get answered too but I don't want to trail it too much...Protectors and a dragon feature, though. We've got new spells, new betrayals, and plenty of old heroes doing what they do best

NOM

I've read the whole series, and found it OK. Wish I knew someone wanted it though, because I gave it away recently

Yay more Elves! :) After Elfsorrow.... Since it took a further 6 months for me to get it here it'll be a year or so till I can get it :( Oh well I can wait!

guess I'm the only one who can't get into the books (Dawnthief) as I've stope after around 100 pages the two times I've tried to read it :\

maybe it's because the scenario so far seems to be "Find the ultimate spell so we can destroy the ultimate evil wizard guys!" or what not..

ah well I'll try to read it again sometime as you people seem to like it eh

:)

Yeah I'm like that with Gemmel - heaps of people tell me how wonderful they are but I just can't see it. My thing is if I don't care what will happen to the characters then I stop reading.
