What games are you playing?

OK, now I'm about 7 hours into a great RPG that I picked up by chance. It's called Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

Dante from Devil May Cry makes a few appearances in it. Average time to finish it is 60 hours so look like a got a bit to go! :p

I gave up on The Getaway: Black Monday a few days ago, something I rarely do. After many hours of fighting the camera and awkward controls, I said "Forget it" and took it back to the video store. This game had some great potential (a GTA-style game in London is an awesome idea, if a little hacky) but it screwed the pooch big time. Didn't like it one bit....

....but my mood was brightened by Killer 7 the moment I popped it in! I love weird, quirky games and this one is quite strange, though at the same time very cool. Be warned however, it isn't for everyone. A lot of people would be turned off by this game, both because your character moves on a track the whole way through (no free-roaming here) and because it can be so weird that you don't know what the hell is going on. Still, if you think you have an open mind, give it a go.

Should you be interested in more of my guff, look for reviews for both of these games in the Games section soon.

Had you played the first Getaway? A lot of people loved it and a lot hated it. I think the ones who hated it were too addicted to GTA: Vice City to pay much attention to other similar games. Especially in the case of The Getaway which required a little time to become accustomed to the controls, which were admittedly a little akward to begin with. But all in all I really loved it, and had it finished within the first week. The graphics and realism, plus the amount of freedome, were all very attractive parts of the game IMO. I also enjoyed the story more than I thought.

It's strange that I loved it so much yet never even looked at Black Monday, not even when I was next to a copy in GAME. Still, now that you've brought it up I might have to test it for myself.

Another point is that the it can take a while to get into, I know I found the first few missions a little odd, as well as discovering the fact that you could heal by leaning against the wall - which wasn't obvious at all (seeing as I never read the manual) :o So yeah, I'll probably pick a copy up at end up loving it :D

But back to the original question: Did you play the first one?

I've been messing with history on Romance of the Three Kingdoms X.

See, with the newfangled SJ style Zhao Yun on the block Liu Bei no longer NEEDS to go into exile, which is making it shape up more as a Romance of the Two Kingdoms scenario, plus the famous sworn brotherhood of Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei now has a fourth member :D.

Nope, never played the first, and I was too into Vice City to look elsewhere for a similar experience :) . Now, don't get me wrong, I think Black Monday had a lot of potential. The story is pretty cool, allowing you to play both good and bad characters, and I loved having no HUD (that's always a plus with me, and the wall-leaning was cool), but some things I just couldn't overcome. Free control of the camera would have made a world of difference (like San Andreas, I know, I know). The camera was probably the sole reason why I didn't like it much, as it trashed some of the controls. I also liked having no crosshairs and instead using the weapons' iron sights or just firing from the hip, but again, the lack of camera control really bunged that up. Plus, a couple of the missions were just stupid. Sorry, but there's no other way around it. The worst was the sixth (maybe fifth, I can't remember) Mitch (the cop) mission. It took me around thirty tries simply because it's all a matter of starting off with a car that isn't blown to s**t. That mission really soured it for me, and since it's right at the beginning, I wasn't off to a good start.

Still, it's worth trying it for yourself. Maybe I'm just too much of a GTA fan, so much so that I can't accept a different control style without whining (I remember having similar issues with Mafia) :o . Ahh well, Killer 7 has cheered me up immensely!

Nah, I think you made a lot of good points. In fact, the first one got me pretty pissed off at times but I kept going with it, simply because in spite of little problems I really loved the game. I think The Getaway and GTA appealed to two very different audiences, it's certainly not your fault that you didn't like it ;) If a game's not your thing you should let it go. I remember my friend's slagging me for doing that with GTA, but it just wasn't for me - and I did try to like it (even bought it) :o

Glad to hear you're enjoying Killer 7, I've yet to play it :D

There are a lot of problems with all of the GTA games, but I love them anyway.

Milamber, you should go back and play some of the older console classics via emulators.

I bought a disc with over 400 classic RPGs from nes snes megadrive and gamegear. I still love playing shining force 2, D&D:Eye of the beholder and loads of other megadrive RPGs via emulators! it's great.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga

In the wake of the ease with which newer, popular RPG's (FFX) are beaten, here is an RPG which reminds us this genre can be really freaking hard, and incredibly engaging at the same time. Lots of leveling, good ole fashioned leveling, lots of ridiculously crippling ailments. I love it. Can't wait to play the sequel, if I can finish this one by the time it comes out.

I'll be interested to see if you keep at it. I stopped playing after around 15 hours, though when the next holiday comes up I might give it another go.

Let me know what you think of it after you play it some more.

I'm pretty far into right now. I'm working on elemental mastery for Serph, I've gotten Last Meal and Bloodfeast for Heat, and I'm working on Death/Expel/Healing/Ailment mastery for Argilla. They are the only three characters I use. I'm currently at the Brutes Base having a really hard time trying to figure out how to handle the boss. I'm fairly sure I'm really close to the end. I've been playing off and on (Hurricane Katrina) since mid-August. Crazy hard game, and by no means perfectly balanced. But the story is intriguing, the characters compelling, and the battle system (press button) is sooooo awesome. I love that you get extra turns for exploiting an enemies weakness, I love devouring enemies to get AP, and I love it when enemies get afraid so I can just go Last Meal all over them.

I'm soooo hungry... mmmmm...

Well lets just say I was playing WarCraft Frozen Throne daily until my dad took it away. He says I have to maintain a 90% average to get WarCraft back. Should be no problem :D

I just quit Ragnarok and made the easy transition into Lineage II. As of yet I like it save for a few small graphical issues that are common in 3D games like this. :D

If you're into MMPORPGs you'd definitely enjoy this one. It has a very Tolkienish feel to it...lol almost to the point of copywrite infringement but thats what I like about it. Haha if you see the cities and hear the music then You'll understand what I mean.

Hmmm.. Just got warcraft frozen Throne back...My dad took it away from me because I played too much. So far all my marks are in the 90%'s so he's allowing me to play again :D :D :D

popular game

network games: US WOW ; EURO WOW ; FFXI ; DAoC ; EQ2 ; Guild Wars ; Eve online ; Matrix and so on or Power Leveling, they are popular :)

Call of Duty 2 for the Xbox 360 on a 50" plasma television with full high definition picture and digital surround sound. You haven't lived.

Nope. I work in a place called Future Shop (electronics retailer) and we have three on demo :D. It's released tomorrow.

Yeah I was just down at the local Target and there are like 50 people camping out on the sidewalk so they can buy one in the morning.

Think I'll wait for the price to drop a little and more games to be released before I buy one.
