What games are you playing?

I just beat Mass Effect (#1) and been working on Forza 3. Waiting for my copies of Darksiders, Mass Effect 2 and Dante's Inferno to arrive in the mail. The waiting sucks but you can't get them in Korea so I deal with it the best I can.

Really waiting for Splinter Cell to come out but a few weeks to go.

Gotmy copy of Mass Effect 2 this morning. I've played the opening sequence now. Things have gotten interesting. If you've read the books you know what kind of direction the story line is going in. If you haven't, well, I guess you'll just have to play on to find out.

Game Play

They've changed certain commands and the controller set up. It's taken me some getting used to. The left analogue stick is no longer used to duck for cover. This got me into some trouble at the beginning. You have to use the A button now.

Both unlocking and hacking is very different now as well. You no longer just press the bottuns in the order that they pop up. The 'mini games' are more complex. The hacking mini game had me very confused at the beginning, but once I figured out how it worked, it wasn't that hard. It takes far more concentration now, but it's not overly tricky.

Dialogue works the same way it did in the first one.

Inventory

The inventory/equipment set up has been changed. (Thank god. It was annoying as hell in the first game.) I haven't had a chance to fully go through it yet. I haven't been able to at this point in the game. From what I can make of it so far though, is you can't manage your equipment from the main menu anymore. You can only do so on the ship in the armoury.

I think you can't just upgrade weaponry and armour from the menu either anymore. You need a specific party member to do that now. Don't have him yet. You have to complete a mission to get him.

Graphics

The graphics are pretty awesome. I don't have an HD t.v. so I think quite a bit of it is lost on me, though.

At any rate, I'm really enjoying this so far. I've only completed the opening sequence, but already I have way more mission options to go through than the first game started you out with. Either a) this game is longer than the first or b) the missions are shorter. Don't know which yet. I'll find out soon enough, though.

Ah. Bliss.

Graphics in Mass Effect 2 are loads better. They took the engine from the last one and improved on it immensely.

I skipped that as I'm still waiting for it to be released (UK FTL). I've heard a lot of good things about ME2, although sadly some bad things. However, I can't wait :)

Seeing my ex next week and might try and buy the X-Box off her... it's just going to be sitting there and she did technically buy it for me to use when staying at hers...

It has all my saved files for games that I have just realised I bought for it. Damn it! They are my games! How did I not remember... suppose I had bigger things on my mind!

Anyhow, loving Dragon Age... spending a scary amount of time on it and it should keep me entertained until Heavy Rain comes out in a month.

I finished Mass Effect 2 in under 18hrs. Um...

Yeah. I'm unsure what to think.

Then you've missed out on a lot. I'm at hour 25 and I'm probably only 1/3 of the way through the main mission. I've been going for system to system, scanning planets and getting side quests. Not to mention depleting entire unexplored planets of mineral deposits so I can upgrade everything and anything.

I'm taking my time. I want to be thorough and savour it. I've been waiting for this game ever since I completed the first one (and I got that game the day it came out). I want to fully enjoy it.

I just got fed up of scanning planets, I did maybe a few but it just got beyond tedious for me.

I'm going to do another playthrough, of course, but I don't think I can stomach it right now. I tend to do things like this with BioWare games (didn't get bored with Dragon Age though) - First run tends to be very much short and sweet, and then once I've understood the game a bit better I'll go through and do a decent playthrough.

Slowly (but surely) working through a full Dragon Age playthrough currently and that's going to take me a while.

I thought they were tedious as well, but then I did the whole scanner upgrade. Man, it made the process go by a lot quicker, let me tell you.

What I also really like about this game is all the quests. There's more than the first game and some of them are a lot shorter. However, the best part is that no two are the same. There's never a repeated dungeon.

The loyalty quests are pretty cool too, though I've learned the hard way that if you do a loyalty quest for one character, you can lose another character's loyalty. You gotta be careful with who you choose.

I only used Mordin, Garrus and (for a short while) Jacob. Never had a problem with the loyalty missions at all. Sure I got two cutscenes (Jack vs Miranda, Tali vs Legion), but I never lost anyone's loyalty. Only Zaeed died for me at the end because I messed up his loyalty mission.

Yes! I beat Mass Effect 2 just now. I even got the

No one Left Behind
achievement.

This game is great. They really cleaned up some of the things that I didn't like in the first one, though I think they did away with some things that they could have expanded upon. There were a few things I miss from the first one that they just dropped. I wish I could have customized my armour the way I could have in the first one. They went a little too slick with the new one, I think. Not as many options.

I clocked in just under 40 hours and I still have more side quests to do. (Yes, you can continue playing after you beat the main mission)

At any rate, I'm going to be playing this game again. The beauty with it is depending on your choices the game plays out differently. I think I'm going to import a different save file/Shepard from the first game and see how that effects the second one. This game I played with a soldier. This next time around I'm going to see how it goes with my sentinal.

Agreed, NickeeCoco. I really liked how the specialised rounds worked out, but I found the heatsink system a little annoying. It was fine most of the time, but from time to time it got to be a pain.

Just finished Grand Theft Auto IV. Satisfied, I suppose, although I absolutely hate helicopters and that last mission. Story was better than the others, but minor things really grated for me. The time limit to get to dates, helicopters etc - A few minor changes and I think it'd have been a better game.

Not sure what to play next. I got Titan Quest + Immortal Throne from Steam this week so it's either going to be those, Trine or I'll continue Dragon Age/Fallout 3.

Started and finished BioShock 2 today. Started at maybe 4:30ish and finished at just over midnight. Had at least an hour not playing it across the whole time.
27/50 achievements and actually not too disappointed with the game as a whole.

Having notched up 100% on Batman: Arkham Asylum (yes a few of the extreme challenges took me a while :)) I have moved on to UFC: Undisputed 2009. I'm kinda enjoying it but I just don't understand how to work the ground game at all, everyone of my wins in career so far has come by KO. I'm guessing this is one of those things becomes easier and understandable second time around. Now I'm deciding whether to get Darksiders, Bayonetta or AVP :D

I have Darksiders. It is basically God of War but a tad easier. Nothing wrong with it but the puzzles and enemies are not exactly difficult, still a good game though.

I just finished Saints Row 2. Was actually really surprised by how much I enjoyed it despite it's many flaws (doesn't perform too well for some reason, driving cars causes the game to stutter, the cars handle poorly etc). I think a good way to describe it would be GTA San Andreas downscaled. Half considering doing a review for some reason!

Not sure what to play next... Putting my ME2, DAO and FO3 replays on the backburner for a while so I can get other games in my collection done. The games I have left to do include:
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Drakensang (tempting to tackle this next), both Neverwinter Nights 2 expansions, Might & Magic 1-8, Fallout, Realms of Arkania 1-3, Tomb Raider Legend + Underworld, Trine, King's Bounty + Armored Princess... And that's the surface scratched ;)

Thanks DB - I really liked the first two GoW games so may cough up for it although it came out cheap so it may get cheaper :)

Dwagginz - Saints Row 2 really surprised me when I played it through last year, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a huge improvement on the first. I actually wanted it to go on longer.

Aye, same here kater. I felt the map was a bit small to allow vehicles such as planes (where do you go to/from in one? There's simply no where that I remember that warranted use of a plane) but otherwise was well put together. There were a lot of zones that were under used (e.g. the island with the nuclear waste you have to collect for a Brotherhood mission) but on the other hand some places felt overused (the University was one, I think). I can't do a lot of the challenges though due to the nature of the game - A lot of them are races which I cannot do because of relatively debilitating bugs in regards to cars. I loved doing Mayhem though and the Sewage challenge.
Never got to play the first (I only game on a PC), so I had to start with #2 and as such the story didn't make a lot of sense at first but it got less and less of an issue as I went along.
If there were more types of missions I think SR2 could have gone on a lot longer but generally I found two sort of missions - Kill everyone or... Kill everyone. Some more theft related missions or package drops would have been good to spice up the gameplay.
