Where do old threads go? Why can I find many, but not others?

For whatever reason, there's a thread from several years ago I want to reread. It's pretty old, but when I search through my own posting history, I find posts on threads that are at least as old as the one I'm looking for, and they're still up to read.

This particular thread was a poll, and it was titled "The Best of ASOIAF vs. the best of WOT" and I believe it was started by a user named Bond. It was an argument at the time, but I actually remember it fondly and want to re-read it.

Where did it go? I assume it was deleted, but I don't know why seeing as, like I said, I can still easily find other threads from the same time period. It likely stopped being an active thread a long time ago, but just today I found, and even replied to, a thread from 2006.

I suppose it can't be restored, can it? I'd even be okay if you were able to provide a direct URL for it so I can see if the Wayback machine has it.

I just realized, you may not be able to see what's in that link. I believe Bond may have been banned. If so, all his content is probably gone. I'll check into it later tonight.

'm about to go hunting, but before I do, can you tell me if threads get deleted?
Yes, they do. All the time. We delete spam posts daily (though not as much as during the spam wars) and when someone gets banned, their content usually goes too (but not all the time).

Ah, so if he created the thread, it would be gone? His comments in other old threads are still there, but he didn't start those.

I was pretty sure threads get deleted, but as you mention, it's spam posts or something. Sometimes I like to reminisce and I miss that thread.

Considering that I replied quite heavily on that thread, but don't see it in my own list of "all posts by", I think the thread was deleted. If that's the case, I'm not sure why. Yes, the argument got quite heated, but so did other threads I can still find.

Cool, I wasn't sure such a thing existed. I was pretty sure if it was gone, it was gone.
Well...it might be gone...I can't find the trash pile...

With last year's re-organization, a lot of things moved...maybe permanently... :(

I'm pretty sure that's the case with this thread. I'm mid-way through Bond's comments and finding the comments he made on another thread where we argued that were concurrent with that thread. This one isn't there.

This was back before the "fantasy/horror" board was created. It was just the "fantasy" board at the time and several bigger authors had their own sub-boards.

We had a massive changeover a couple of years ago from one network system to another - it may have disappeared into Internet heaven then.

Apologies, Takoren.

M.

If things got very heated, it could've also potentially been trashed by a mod/admin. I recall that there were plenty of WOT threads that devolved very quickly and got that sort of treatment.

Who knows. I tried to find something myself meeting your parameters, but had no luck.
