Write One, Sub One

today's rejection was for a story I have total faith in. Hmm. I feel weird: the fact that I love the story means that the rejection in a way feels worse, but also in a way feels better -- the latter because I can honestly say I'm sure it wasn't turned down because it's no good.

I think I'm about to get chewed up and spat out by Strange Horizons too, though the story there is one I am happy with and seems a good fit for them.

This writing thing is a strange business.

No from Deep Magic, alas. And a no from Vestsl Review on a story I'd submitted over two years ago, queried without an answer, withdrawn, and submitted elsewhere since.

Yeah, I pretty much gave up on Vestal Review a while back, never seem to get any response from the editor yet he posts frequently on various forums.....

Not sure where to post this, but I just sold a story to DSF. Very excited to finally crack this market. ^.^

Congratulations! I'm yet to crack this one but I read it every day.

All quiet on the Clarkesworld front... I've subbed to them twice before the current one and got bumped to second round or rejected lightning fast. This time the queue hasn't moved!

SteveW that's so cool that you have something suitable for BCS, I just can't seem to write strictly second world fantasy. Sucks about FSF but at least they're fast! I got my bottom tier form in like one day the one time I sent something to them. :/

This is the first time I've had a regular sized short, and it does happen to be a second world fantasy. Though it turns out, I am very weak at second world fantasy and probably won't be writing any more of them in the foreseeable future.

Oh raspberries! You can write in any setting. Stop self rejecting

The squirrels are scratching their heads, 'a second world fantasy' what the hell's that some new kind of sex position?

I'm not self rejecting. I swear. ;)

I think I am be objective about my own work in recognizing that my second world stories are much weaker than stories I write in a contemporary setting.

Really? You think that? That's so cute. LOL. And no, you don't get to throw my words back on me the next time I get mopey. ;)
