The authors from last year’s Origins (2012) anthology, Time Traveled Tales, have come together to run a Kickstarter campaign in order to release the previously limited collection to the public. Edited by Jean Rabe, the anthology has stories from Michael A. Stackpole, Timothy Zahn, Bradley P. Beaulieu, Aaron Allston, Maxwell Alexander Drake, me, and 13 others. Each of the 19 stories will include a brand-new illustration by artist Matt Slay.
The collection will be published by Silence in the Library, a small press that seeks to ensure that all of the creative drivers—authors, editors, artists, and graphic designers—involved in bringing a book to market have a substantive voice in the process. They receive no more than 15% of funds raised (to pay for layout and marketing) and then split the rest equally between the authors and artists. Nifty, huh?
The Kickstarter campaign started the day before this year’s Origins with an initial goal of $7500. In less than four days, it has raised over $5500. There are stretch goals identified at $10k, $12k, and a new one (as of this morning) at $14k. Latest update: U.S. News & World Report has contacted Silence in the Library to discuss the project and its ramifications.
This past weekend at Origins, the authors involved promised to reach out to their various networks to help spread the word, so…that’s what I’m doing. A quick Tweet, Facebook post, or even a blog post on how this is yet another example of the changing face of publishing would help spread the word. As time goes on, this sort of direct “author to reader” model will become much more prevalent, especially for collections like this.
I know you are busy, so I tried to keep this brief. More information is available at the Kickstarter campaign page:
