Guest Post: The Art of Demon Hunting by Cynthia Vespia

demonhuntersagaA somewhat different Guest Post from Cynthia Vespia on The Art of Demon Hunting as seen through the eyes of her fictional character Costa Calabrese.

I’ve become my father.

My father was a famous and feared hunter of demons. People called on him to rid the scourge of evil from the land. He was paid handsomely. But the cost outweighed any gold or trinkets.

As his kin I have the honor (or misfortune) of following in his footsteps. I’ve inherited the family business so-to-speak. But unlike my father I believe in exploring outside sources beyond the family to continue the trade should some horrible fate befall me.

So welcome to my world. I’m about to give you a crash course on demon hunting. You will learn about arms, defending against zombie attacks, what to do when faced with a vampire, and more. It may just save your life.

Lesson One:

“You must master many weapons in your quest to vanquish the servants of hell.”

Hell has many minions. All of them will stop at nothing to tear out your very heart. Arming yourself is the first step in avoiding certain death. Each hunter will find comfort in their own weapon as well as the style to use it. I prefer the crossbow. It allows me to fight at a comfortable distance with speed and accuracy. Trust me, the farther you are from these disgusting creatures the better. Whatever you choose to arm yourself with make certain you are skilled in its use. And remember this: though you do not want to be too burdened down the more weapons you can artfully carry the better!

Lesson Two:

“Concerning Vampires.”

Face a vampire with courage and calmness and he shall cower in fear. For all their purported strengths their weaknesses are greater still. Any wound the vampire takes shall affect it for all its immortal life, impairing its ability to hunt.

Vampires seek to expand their clan by seducing mortals. Once the unsuspecting is in their grip the vampire will puncture their skin, usually upon the neck with their teeth. This is something of a rite of passage and will begin the transformation from human to vampire.

The human has only one chance to escape such a horrible fate. They will not become a full vampire until their first mortal kill. Before that time the vampire lot that impregnated them with blood must be destroyed.
Lesson Three:

“Surviving a zombie attack.”

You must organize before they rise for you won’t have a chance to once they are in your midst. Keep moving, keep low, keep quiet and always keep alert. You mustn’t let fear dissuade you. Keep your wits and your head…chop off theirs. Know that no place is safe, only safer. The zombie is a relentless enemy. If you can avoid them do so.

Conclusion:

So there you have it young demon hunter. But we’ve only scratched the surface of your skills. If you want to learn more you need to pick up my journal, read it cover to cover, and then read it again. Maybe then you will find your place amongst the feared and the famous.
