As part of our SFFWorld.com’s Member Spotlight Series, Nila interviews Jackie Bee, avid fantasy/science fiction reader and an aspiring writer.
Hello Jackie, it’s great to have a new member take the plunge with these interviews! Are you ready?
Jackie: Sure!
SFFWorld: What’s your SFFWorld.com’s forum alias and why did you pick it?
Jackie: Jackie Bee sounded like a catchy nickname, that was the main reason. Also, it’s my pen name for writing.
SFFWorld: How did you discover SFFWorld.com and why did you decide to join?
Jackie: I searched the Net for interesting Sci-Fi communities, and SFFWorld seemed like one of the most lively ones. I wasn’t disappointed!
SFFWorld: How long have you been a member and what keeps you coming back?
Jackie: I’ve joined recently (May 8, 2015), and I keep coming back for interesting discussions and the writing contests.
SFFWorld: What’s your favorite book?
Jackie: Well, there are so many… I guess I’d pick 1984 by George Orwell. It’s one of those book I can open on any page, start reading, and know it’s going to be interesting.
SFFWorld: Who’s your favorite author?
Jackie: I got no favorite authors right now. Back in my teens, I was seriously into Stephen King, but I grew out of it eventually, and now I just look for good books to read, no matter who’s written them.
SFFWorld: What’s your favorite genre (science fiction, fantasy, horror, steampunk, etc)?
Jackie: I like Magic Realism and Slipstream – they are closely related to Science Fiction and Fantasy, but they stand alone. Simply put, I like stories that take place in the familiar world, and then things get weird!
SFFWorld: Where’s your favorite place to read?
Jackie: My car—if listening to audiobooks counts for reading. I spend about an hour and a half each day driving to and from work, and audio books usually succeed in turning those traffic jams into an enjoyable quality time.
SFFWorld: Favorite con (convention)?
Jackie: Living in Israel, I’m a bit too far removed from, well, everything, so I haven’t been to any conventions…but hopefully, one day…
SFFWorld: What do you do when you are not reading or messing around on SFFWorld.com?
Jackie: I have a day job and two kids, so there’s not much time left for any kind of messing… but whatever free time I get, I spend writing. My stories have appeared in various Science Fiction and Horror magazines, and now I’m trying to shop my first novel around.
SFFWorld: Good luck with that! Do let us know when you find a home for it. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to talk to me, Jackie. Anything else you’d like to add?
Jackie: Thank you for your time! If other forum members feel like becoming my friend on Facebook, I’ll be glad!
