Meet Kevin Tumlinson: He is a speculative fiction author influenced at a very early age by Orson Scott Card. Aside from his writing career, which is considerable, he also runs his own podcast called “The Wordslinger Podcast” and he’s also the Marketing Director for the ebook publishing company, Draft2Digital. In today’s episode we talk about publishing “wide”, author services the company provides, and how Universal Book Links will revolutionize indie publishing.
During this Keystroke Medium episode, Kevin talks about growing up as a writer and his eventual decision to pull out of a traditional publishing contract and go indie. This was really cool because we went way back to the early days of indie publishing as we now know it. (Indie publishing is actually as old as paper, I think.)
The Dan Kotler thriller series, currently consisting of the Coelho Medallion novel and prequel, The Brass Hall, is his current project, and Kevin talks about how a dare pulled him from his normal genre of science fiction, where he’d amassed a sizeable list, into the world of mystery thrillers.
What is D2D and how can it change the world?
Draft2Digital is an aggregation tool; it allows authors to upload their book and have it sent to Kobo, Barnes and Noble, Nook, Apple Books, and many other places as published ebooks. In essence, this is publishing “wide” and has many smart marketing merits. Students of author entrepreneurism will dig this section of the interview.
As a bonus, we discuss Universal Book Links. This tool allows ebook buyers to click a link and go to the platform of their choice in the country of their choice. Do you live in the UK? Automatically get sent to the UK store.
Kevin Tumlinson is the author of the military science fiction Citadel series and the Coelho Medallion thrillers. Learn more about his work at Kevintumlinson.com. Also check out Draft2digital.com and Books2read.com (universal book links).
