Daemos Rising by David J Howe

Deamos Rising is a novellisation of the Dr Who spin off drama by the same name produced by Reeltime Pictures. As a tie in, it bridges the void where the BBC show had been cancelled.

The blurb:

KATE LETHBRIDGE-STEWART is summoned by an old friend, Douglas Cavendish, to help him with a problem he has with ghosts and voices in his head. But when Kate arrives, she finds more than she expected. Aided by a time-traveller from the future, Kate must outwit both the ancient race of Daemons, and the Sodality, a human cult-like organisation from the future, which is intent on gaining control over time

With limited knowledge of the Whoverse, and not having seen the screen version I was concerned I wouldn’t be able to follow Daemos Rising, but it’s written well and the novel stands on the strength of Howe’s characterisation.

With a little research however, I know Howe’s knowledge of the Dr Who universe offers rewards for fans who like to see links to the many other Whovian arcs. Howe provides solid connections to other episodes, as well as to other Telos novels without upsetting the wibbly wobbly continuity in the Who universe. The cover also pays homage to the Target styling.
