The Gemmell Award Shortlist

Gemmell Awards

Every reader was entitled to be involved in establishing the shortlist for the Gemmell Awards. Readers are now invited to vote on those shortlisted works to see their favourite novel receive its just reward.

And now a pause in our quest while we celebrate the shortlisted few with frothy pints of ale.

Gotrek & Felix: Slayer by David Guymer (Black Library)

Ruin by John Gwynne (Pan Macmillan)

The Liar’s Key by Mark Lawrence (Harper/Voyager)

Morningstar Award (Best Debut)

Normally there are only five nominees for the Morningstar, but this year there was essentially a tie between fifth and sixth place, therefore all six have been put forward.

Voting on the shortlist is now open.  I suspect it will be duels at dawn for the treasured Legend Award. The winner will take home Snaga itself (or at least an excellent replica) with which to defend their title. The winning author of the debut novel will take home the mighty Morningstar. Ravenheart goes out to the unsung heroes in fantasy. The artist who has managed to capture not only hearts but thousands of words in one epicly glorious image will earn the Ravenheart.

These awards are granted by reader votes. In other words, your opinion counts. If you want to see the book you adore rightly earn the attention it deserves, vote for it and let others know too! You have until Friday 19th of August to show these storytellers how much you’ve enjoyed their work.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony taking place at 8pm on Saturday 24th September at Fantasycon in Scarborough, UK.
