Who is Michael Bunker?
A few years ago Josh Hayes told me about this guy who wrote a book called Pennsylvania. Are you thinking science fiction yet? Oh yeah, Michael Bunker is a self-described plain person. Amish.
Technology, science, amish — three things we all associate automatically. Right?
During Michael Bunker’s guest appearance on Keystroke Medium, we learned that he didn’t pick the genre classification of his novel. Amazon does that, and no one fights the 800-pound gorilla in the room. Or the world’s largest river for that matter.
Pennsylvania is about a young Amishman who volunteers to help colonize of a planet called New Pennsylvania. One of the great parts of Michael’s Keystroke Medium interview is how he describes the premise of the book and his thought process. Pilgrims coming to the New World in 1620 might have a lot in common with pilgrims traveling to the stars in the future. #Justsaying
Michael Bunker brings fresh insights to storytelling, but also demystifies luck.
During his interview he explained that he wasn’t trying to become an author in the early days. Some might call this luck. The secret is to be prepared for when lightning strikes. Perhaps that is why a science fiction story written by a down to Earth plain person has been optioned for a movie. It might be why his novel Brother Frank is a phenomenal success with one of the best book covers of 2015. And last but not least, the intentionality of his living has led to collaboration with a wide variety of writers and artists.
Michael writes in several genres and on multiple projects. At the same time he runs the family farm and is still able to reach out to a diverse group of friends in a world dominated with material things and technology. How? Maybe it is best to hear it in his own words. This Keystroke Medium interview is not one to miss.

Josh and I learned a lot from Michael and look forward to future conversations. His talent is undeniable as is his willingness to share. Some people are great to talk to because they are confident without being cocky, brilliant without being overbearing, intellectual without being pedantic.
Michael Bunker is an Amish science fiction writer. He says that means he is a simple person. Anyone who has met Michael knows he is simply a great guy with talent.
