Horror Film Festival Slated for Iconic Hotel

The Timberline Lodge, best known for its appearance in  Stanley Kubrick’s classic film, The Shining, will be home to a new horror film festival in April 2017.

The festival, called the Overlook Film Festival, will be a four-day experience “[p]resenting superior film programming with an expanded focus on experiential events.” It will showcase new works, as well as “classic independent horror cinema alongside the latest in interactive and live shows.”

In the Stephen King novel on which the film is based, the Overlook Hotel was located in Colorado. It was based on the real life Stanley Hotel where King stayed with his family.

Kubrick only used the Timberline Lodge for exterior shots. All of the interior shots were filmed on soundstage sets constructed at the EMI Elstree Studios in Great Britain.

The Timberline Lodge is located in Government Camp, Oregon, at the base of Mount Hood. Unlike the fictional Overlook Hotel, there is no hedge maze on grounds.

Guests hoping to stay at the hotel during the festival will need to purchase a package. More information can be found on the festival’s website.

The festival is currently accepting submissions for both features and shorts. For submission information, visit the Overlook Film Festival’s website.
