New Races, Monsters, and Lore Come to Dungeons & Dragons

A new companion guide to the popular role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons is coming out this month.

Volo’s Guide to Monsters is a companion guide to D&D, set in the popular Forgotten Realms campaign setting. The Forgotten Realms is the world where many D&D campaigns take place, including Neverwinter Nights and Baldur’s Gate.

The guide is a unique blend all-new material, similar to what can be found in the Player’s Handbook, the Monster Manual, and the Dungeon Master’s Guide. Yet Volo’s Guide to Monsters provides new monsters (such as the Froghemoth), character races (such as the Firbolg), as well as plenty of unexplored lore about iconic creatures and locations.

Written as part dissertation and part epistle, the supplement is designed to give dungeon masters more materials to work with as they flesh out their own stories, either within the Forgotten Realms setting, or in their own custom world.

Volo, short for Volothamp Geddarm is a mainstay character and loremaster of the Forgotten Realms, and the book is from mostly his perspective. Previous books, such as the manual to the popular computer game ‘Baldur’s Gate,’ have been written from Volo’s perspective.

Pre-release excerpts of the guide can be found at the Dungeons & Dragons website.

The guide will be available on Tuesday, November 15.
