Netflix has announced the upcoming release of an animated adaptation of Konami’s popular video game series, Castlevania.
The Castlevania franchise began in 1986, with the first entry for the Nintendo Famicom, or NES. Players controlled Simon Belmont on his journey through Dracula’s castle in his fight against the forces of evil.

Producing the show will be Adi Shankar and Warren Ellis who also penned the series.
Shankar is best known for producing the feature films, The Grey, starring Liam Neeson, and Dredd, as well as the gritty Punisher and Power/Rangers shorts.
Ellis is best known for his work in comics, including such titles as Hellblazer, Transmetropolitan, and Iron Man Extremis.
According to an IGN interview with Shankar, the show will be based on the third entry in the series, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse.
Though little is known about the project, the animated series is slated for a 2017 release.
