What's the last movie you watched (2010)?

Is it really though? The only thing about Branagh in my opinion that directly recommends him to direct Thor is his Shakespeare experience (knows his way around outlandish archaic speech patterns ;)). It's hard to say who will turn out and who won't, I am optimistic but you never know.

Kenneth Branagh has directed a lot of movies. My favorite of his is Dead Again where he both acts and directs.

Overall, I think he is a decent choice for this.

Look I'm not saying that Kenneth Branagh isn't talented or accomplished, it's just that I haven't seen him do anything necessarily that makes me think he'd be good for a superhero movie, except in the case of Thor Shakespeare experience. It's about the only thing I can think of that makes him a better choice for Thor than say, Sophia Coppola. But then again a director on paper is a different thing than a director in action so we will see.

Just gonna have to keep those fingers crossed on Thor then. I feel better about Brannagh though then some dude who just shot some hot music videos and has hype going for them.

Oh I agree. I think more likely than not I will enjoy it. As bad as the bad comic adaptation directors are the best ones set a pretty high standard.

I remember when Branagh was introduced at the Oscars as the next big Brit that would come along. Hasn't quite lived up to that billing but he was in a manner of speaking head of his class, and a certain level of quality would be expected of the work he produces.

Last movie I saw was Law Abiding Citizen, very good throughout but the ending was lame. Didn't care enough about the Jamie Foxx character for it to be compelling.

Watch clash of the Titans last night, not really impressed. Save your money and watch the old movie because the only diffrence is the new one uses today tech for the tv/cinama screen.:)

THX 1138 - not the tarted-up up 2004 directors' cut, the original version, and what a fine film it is too. Makes you wish he'd stopped all that Star Wars crap after the first movie and gone on to better things.

Just saw Kick-Ass. And it sure kicked ass! Definitely going to be hard to top this movie for me this year.

What Quagmire said. Pretty much a perfect execution of what it set out to do I think. It was just the right amount of violent, funny, goofy and epic. Lots of good performances in there but Hit-Girl pretty much stole the movie.

So it's good? Just read Ebert's review (he hated it), which made it sound pretty disturbing, especially since I work with children. The thought of watching a young girl on a killing spree, and getting the crap beaten out of her, doesn't sound very appealing. But I guess if it's the more cartoony violence of Kill Bill, then it might be okay.

Saw Surrogates (Bruce Willis) the other day. Entertaining, fun, not really memorable.

And yes, I'm the last one to see Avatar, which I checked out this evening. I was really impressed even after the hype, but I think it won the right oscars and didn't really deserve the best picture as plot was cliche and some of the characters (soldiers mostly) were ridiculous.

The thing about Hit-girl is she's a real superhero in the real world without any real powers. Therefore her dad makes her ridiculously good at killing people and taking a beating because in the modern world of violent crime the best defense is a good offense. Plus she's got a filthy mouth on her, which is hilarious. She came across to me sort of like a girl version of high school Caine in Blade of Tyshalle. Also, if you watch the movie you will find out she has her reasons. She gets beat up at the end because she takes on the "super-villain" crime boss without any ammo or weapons. Since one of the main messages of the movie is that if you're going to run around being a superhero you're going to get the crap beaten out of you and most likely be killed it didn't seem that crazy to me.

I will admit, my girlfriend and I were laughing more than most people in the the theater but we have twisted senses of humour and this movie was right up our alley. I feel like I should say this though, of the ultra-violent Hit-girl scenes (which are all disturbing to a degree) one is funny (lots of fun for everyone! tra la la, la la la-la), one is awesome and one is the one of the BEST "hero" scenes I have EVER seen.

Or me. Not sure if I want to see it or not, so I'll probably pick it up in the sales or something.

I was planning on waiting till it was one of those 'can't even give them away' DVDs on eBay like War of the Worlds and Planet of the Apes.

You guys missed out than. Avatar rocked and to see it in 3-D - well it was amazing. I am psyched for the DVD release this week. I'll be grabbing it day 1.

Last night I rewatched Close Encounters of the Third Kind. What a great freaking movie. I love the feel of this movie alot. It has so much tension and a sense of reality. The effects still hold up pretty damn well also. They just dont make movies with staying power like that anymore.

Bought a new bluray player and I could finally watch all of Inglourious Basterds!
