I have only a few minutes to set the general theme; I'll repeat rules and add deadlines when I get more time

To start the New Year off, I thought I'd inject some colour into our lives. I want all you out there to write me a rainbow.

To keep it simple (and to prevent arguments on the lines of whether beige is a colour), pick one of the traditional colours of the rainbow and use it in or as the title of your submission. Write as you see fit.

So Kenny can have drunken squirrels only if red! (or orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo or violet)

Length: 1000 words.
Submissions due by midnight 24 January 2015 GMT.

1) Think of a story idea that includes speculative fiction elements (fantasy, science fiction, horror elements) and fits the theme stated above
2) Write story
3) Edit story
4) Post story in the Stories sub-forum.
5) Come back here and let us know that you posted your story and provide a link to that story (makes it easier for me to find your story when it comes time to vote).
6) Read the other entries and offer comments that help the writer both know what they did right and what they did wrong (in your humble opinion)
7) Vote when the voting poll goes up

The winner takes over the next contest and has the honour of picking its theme.

CONTEST GUIDELINES:
PG-13 - generally, the forum restricts its contents to what would be acceptable at the PG-13 rating. However, we are lenient for creative purposes in the writing forum. Please warn readers if your story contains adult situations.
Once you post your contest entry, we discourage writers from altering the original text submitted. While it may be okay to change a few typos here and there, please do not revise your piece substantially. If you would like to respond to feedback, you are encouraged to post your revision within the thread (but not the original post).
Please refrain from voting for your own story.

Ha!

Rainbow colors...darn. Black is my favorite color and I don't think it is included in a rainbow...is it?

I'm thinkin' of that song by Coldplay 'Yellow' that has a complete absence of yellow.....love it.....well not really a lack of yellow, but missing end rhyme which I found quite clever on Chris Martin's part and made me sit up and take notice of him and his band. :D
sure Nila you use the idea I'm going for Picasso's blue guitar. :D

Written one (833 words.). Don't know how I could top it but I'll write another three just in case.

Then I wrote another two. Not as well received as the first. 698 words for the second and an 869 word story just then

Done a red and a green and a yellow which still leaves orange, blue, indigo and violet. I think I'll go blue. for my last one.

Black is the absence of color

Actually black is the absorption of all colors. White is the reflection of all colors. So if you look at it like that, a material said to be black is actually one that greedily sucks up all color, while something white actively rejects all color...so which of these actually "has" color?

We ponder.

...or not.

Well, depends on if you are talking about incident light or reflected light, eh? :p

Despite having no time, I am working on a (black) story.

SallyC, is it okay if I use black? Or does it absolutely have to be one of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo or violet. If it helps, I can work in all those colors along with black.

Nila, your story content can be as black as you like, I only specified colour as part of the title. Can't you make that ironic, as in not red, or something along those lines? I've never seen any story refused admission because it doesn't meet the guidelines, and I'm reluctant to be a petty tyrant. I would rather see your story up and let the rest of the participants decide for themselves if breaking the rules offends them. That's worked in the past: if everyone disapproves, the voting and comments will make that clear.

If anyone else strongly objects, then we can throw the matter up for debate.

Oh wait, now I see that "in or as the title" ..... that does open it up to almost anything I guess.....

Grrrrrrrrrrr...In my half-dream, half-awake state this morning I came up with a story for this, including dialog and characters and background and love and loss...Got to my day job and now all I remember is the general setting and situation. But the important details of how to make it work are totally gone.

Apparently having a 1-on-1 meeting with your boss first thing in the morning is a total creativity killer.

Back to the rainbow colored drawing board.

Ah! I didn't see that. Now I have and will go forth accordingly. Thanks!

And it doesn't matter if folks protest my use of black by not voting for my piece. They probably won't anyway!

Green Lights Fandango

http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?44980-Jan-15-FF-Entry-no-longer-here

Not sure what happened. I posted the thread, then deleted right afterwards, changing the title of the thread so no one would waste energy clicking on it. Then I re-posted the story and changed the thread title, but the second thread title change didn't take.

So don't be fooled by the thread title - "no longer there". There is a story in there - somewhere - inspired by the synching of my new iPod.
