As the title suggests (and following on from last year's thread) here's where you tell us about what genre movie you've seen. Whether at the cinema, on TV, streamed or on disc, tell us what you watched, and what you thought.

I saw Rogue One over the holidays and liked it - a great female lead (as was in The Force Awakens), some interesting CGI effects, and I thought the last section of the movie on Scarif to steal the Death Star plans, was the best part.

I thought some parts were a bit muddled though, and again more plot lines borrowed from previous movies. Would rate it 4th best in the series.

I saw Rogue One over the holidays and liked it much. The badass blind jedi impressed me the most, but I liked it all.

I intend to see Arrival this weekend, if it is still in the theater.

Like, I'd post a review, but:

I watched passengers the other day. It was an OK film. My opinion is that they said 'let's make a desert Island movie... In space!' but didn't think it through. Buuuut Chris Pratt makes me laugh and Michael Sheen was a convincing android so not the worst in my books.

Also just re-watched the Harry Potter series which was fun.

Last night I watched Panic in the Year Zero (1962) directed by Ray Miland. It is a B-grade sf movie set in the wake of an atomic attack against the US. I thought it was fairly well constructed with some tense set pieces, despite its incongruous Les Baxter score and some very bad acting from younger cast members. I liked the fact that it didn't moralise for viewer and lets audience make up their own minds about the ethics of the decisions made by the main character the keep his family safe. I would recommend giving this a watch if you stumble on it. It's based on a couple of Ward Moore short stories.

He is not really a Jedi but that's the best part. In episode 1-3 Lucas completely ruined the idea of becoming Jedi because it turned out that in Star Wars universe people are born Jedi and person without right DNA can't be one with the Force. Even worse - your ability is predetermined from start (remember how Qiu-Gon made blood test on young Anakin?). I always thought it's disgusting and racist, almost like in Nazi Germany.

But in Rogue One we are reminded that everyone can be a hero and feel the Force. It's was very pleasant for me and my childhood memories.

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, and I didn't know that! Thanks for the clarification. So that means he's even more badass than a Jedi. ;)

Oh, I saw Spectral last night on Netflix. I liked it, but soooo obvious it's a video game setup story, right? Am I right?

But I did like the way the "ghosts" dissipated at the end. I'm writing stories about ghosts right now and I thought my idea of how ghosts died was unique.

EDIT: I'm not the only one who thought video game: Nerdist Review.

I feel like almost any action or sci-fi movie today are basically videogame where you can't control anything. It probably happened because of "let's play" videos popularity. People from movie industry saw the trend and did they best to exploit it. It very funny and somewhat sad because 10 years ago we were promised interactive cinema and television where you can control all the characters and plot lines. Instead videogames are now much more linear and movies are like linear videogames.

I watched Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children this morning with my boyfriend since he hadn't seen it yet. Normally I like to read the book before I see the movie but I guess I wound up doing this one backwards. Oh well, planning on reading the first book sometime soon. :)

Just watched Arrival. Incredible movie. Very moving. But like most time-based stories, it made no sense to me. (No sense for the aliens to do what they did.)

But that's the case for me with anything that breaks linear time.

Regardless, great movie.

The Accountant
Enjoyable, but ultimately disappointing. Batman didn't cape up even once. Not that he was less effective uncooking books. And he had even less of a sense of humor without the mask on. And zero compunction about killing criminals? And what's with the Action Comics fetish, Bruce? At least I made it to the end of this one, unlike Dawn of Justice.

Just rewatched Michael Radford's Nineteen Eighty-Four after rereading the book late last year. Still impressed by what a faithful adaptation it is, particularly given how conceptual the book is. Brilliant film version of one of my favourite novels.

Which soundtrack?
