Jan-Jun 2017 Novelette/Novella Contest: TANSTAAFL

yep I've been doing my first draft in a couple hundred page note book. I have a general idea where I'm going and I try to be as comprehensive as I can be in describing everything that happens. if it's too much info or not enough I can chop it out or chuck more in in the edit. bits i think are just me phoning it in are still strange little bits when I look at them later -- cause the english language is a strange thing without any help from me.

I Dunno if that's helpful advice but its where I'm at with the writing bizness.
 
OK. This is the only contest I have left to focus on this month. I've been working (reworking- apologies to those who have already read an earlier/shorter attempt) this story for quite awhile now. Tomorrow I'll read it over again and see how much more work I still need to do.

I just found an abandoned short that might work with this theme. Needs a lot of rewriting and extending though! Given I struggle to finish and polish a 5k short these days, I'm not sure how I'll do, but I'll give it a try...

I still only have an outline and ideas and a very rough draft of the first paragraph... :( Throwing of towels will commence, I just don't have/take the time for such a large project just now. Maybe easier if I join the next one.

it only has to be the length of a full length short story plus a half again... 7 and a half thousand words isn't so large.... on the other end of the spectrum -- 40 thousand werds... that's a bit largish.

I've been spending about three hours a day for the last month on this. Not counting the fact that parts of it that need editing drift into my brain 24/7 and get filed away into my brain's writing compartment till I'm back at the 'board. Should have it in tomorrow evening...
It's no War and Peace... so, it's a lucky thing for me that most novellas aren't.
