(2020) Birds of Prey
9/10
Variety of locations, 3 dimensional main characters having to deal with real world issues, good action scenes, high stakes climax with great action, character development, Charismatic entertaining Badass Main Villain that has an effective Right Hand Man, drama, good ending, ticking clock, funny scenes, likable main good characters, and high amount of use of show don’t tell.
A great super hero team movie that does a great job of show don’t tell including that common movie cliche that has a scene shown and then gives a stated amount of time before that shown scene so the audience can understand with scenes shown why that scene is happening.
Also has that common movie cliche of obvious solution that a main character could use except doesn’t with a valid reason so it’s not the plot hole why didn’t do this before when they do use the obvious solution.
I understood why the Huntress is in the movie and what is her objective along with any other important information is shown, same for Black Canary, and GCPD detective Renee Montoya.
None of them are shoehorned in or wasted.
Harley Quinn is an entertaining charismatic main character with a character ark with a goal and I was entertained seeing more of her life since she is the main character. I understood what is her goal, and why she is the person shown in this movie.
The movie shows a valid reason why the super hero team Birds of Prey gets created.
Roman Sionis aka Black Mask the main Villain is a vicious Kingpin that is a charismatic entertaining main villain that I enjoyed watching, and wanted to see more when he wasn’t being shown. All scenes with him are entertaining and 1 Black Mask scene stood out as most entertaining. This is the 1st appearance of the super villain Black Mask in a feature movie and the vicious Kingpin is done justice. Ewan McGregor does a great job of playing Black Mask, and was having fun playing the Main Villain in a DC Comics Super Hero movie.
Victor Zsasz is Black Mask’s right hand man in this DC Cinematic Universe Continuity, and he’s an effective right hand man.
(2014) Animal
8/10
An entertaining great animal attacks Horror movie set in the Woods, and a Cabin.
The movie gives a reason why the characters are in the Woods, and satisfied me with a good reason why an obvious solution can’t be used.
I was impressed that this movie succeeded to make this movie entertaining since most of the movie is 1 location that is the cabin.
A unique design for the animal that is a bloodthirsty predator, and practical effects for the animal which is why the animal looks impressive, also real including the teeth.
This Horror movie is Lovecraft style because a name is not given for the fictional animal, and no known origin for the terrifying animal. The movie is 82 minutes long so most likely that’s why, and not negative because that unknown makes the animal more terrifying.
Most of the main good characters are realistic likable good characters.
I understood why one character is a jerk. None of the drama is contrived.
A dramatic exciting climax, unforgettable ending, terrific twist, exciting scary scenes with good action, good acting, great practical effects, entertaining kills, a terrifying animal with a unique design, the terrifying animal does get enough screen time, realistic likable main good characters you can root for to survive, 1 entertaining jerk character, drama, and no boring scenes in an 82 minutes Animal attacks Horror movie.
(2014) The Guest
10/10
A thriller movie that is a masterpiece, and hasn’t been ruined by a sequel or sequels. This movie doesn’t need a sequel.
Start to finish an entertaining great thriller movie.
The Villain is the main character, and he’s a charismatic great entertaining Villain to watch same as Darth Maul, Darth Vader, (MCU) Killmonger.
This movie has a straight forward story, raises questions about the Villain, and gives an explanation that answers raised questions about the Villain.
Anything that I should understood with information in the movie I did including why Luke has an ark, why the main hero has the intention to find and kill the villain, why certain scenes were getting shown, and why a teenager main character becomes suspicious of the guest.
The movie does a great job of showing me who the 4 main good characters are which is the Peterson family, and since the main hero and the main good characters are shown to be likable good characters I didn’t want to see them get hurt or die.
Impressive action scenes, unique location for the dramatic great climax, memorable lines, and an unforgettable ending.
(2019) The Silence
10/10
A great horror creatures attack movie that is a mix of The Birds and Tremors, and is gorier than A Quiet Place.
The movie does give a good logical reason why the literal name The Silence, and the two words tagline They’re listening is shown to be extremely right.
The movie has impressive looking creatures for this Netflix Horror movie which is an adaptation of the 2015 Horror novel by Tim Lebbon of the same name, impressive practical effects, scary scenes, adventure and drama, good action scenes, an exciting action climax, likable main good characters that I could root for, and an ending that satisfied me.
Anything that should be given a reason or explained is including why is Ally deaf.
The movie does a great job of showing where these creatures are from, why did these creatures start attacking and killing humans which is the same reason why the creatures attacking humans would continue in the movie.
The movie also gives a valid reason why a Cult are antagonists for Ally and her family, also the movie shows the main characters as realistic likable characters that have realistic issues.
A Horror movie that has no likable main good characters is highly challenging to watch, and this Horror movie doesn’t have that issue.
Also while the movie The Silence was released after A Quiet Place, The Silence still has other differences in the movie which is why The Silence isn’t a rip off of A Quiet Place.
