not Zathuria which I also liked a lot more than most people seemed to).

I liked Zathuria too, but it wasn't a huge box-office success, was it? Bit like Tomorrowland, actually.

On the advice of younger Hobbit, watched Upgrade. (2018). Not particularly deep but was better than many similar movies. Sort've like The Six Million Dollar Man revamped for contemporary generation.

Wanna see this -it's in the queue...I just like -from what I've seen -the fight choreography, created to represent what the economy effort a computer combat interface in action, might look like -nothing about appearance, all about result...

It's not a big budget movie, Arthur - youngest son says $7m, which is ridiculously cheap, I gather - but I quite enjoyed it, more than I thought I would. Hope you like it too!

Low budget films look better than they ever did now! The Lighthouse and Mandy both looked great, and they were 4 and 6 million to make, respectively!

Tonight's movie - UP!, a late Russ Meyer movie with all the usual elements: huge-breasted women, rape, murder, lots and lots of energetic improbable sex and some seriously demented sound editing. The first Russ Meyer movie in which I think he finally got the line of action sorted out in his head and didn't criss-cross it all the time. It was a bit boring. I think I've seen too many of his films. The novelty has worn off.

I think I've seen too many of his films. The novelty has worn off.

I saw most of that one. Amazingly, it was a youTube thing. The mindeff aspect of all his films, is that they seem like TV shows or movies from that period, but genuinely dirty and seedy. I confess that's enough for me to get a kick out of them!

I watched Tenet at the cinemas today - fast paced (pretty much doesn't let up for the whole movie), but that also means that the plot twists and exposition happens quickly, so sometimes it's hard to keep up. The time travel/ inverted travel concept doesn't set in until the last half or so, and that's the section where it's harder to follow - but a couple of twists and reveals makes for a good ending.

I was thinking Nolan could have done a more basic spy thriller (most of the first half) and it would have been really great, so for me a just "very good" but it's one of those movies that needs re-watching (like Inception).

I also thought Kenneth Branagh was excellent as the as bad guy - one of the better I've watched in a while (the lead John David Washington was good too).

The sign of a good Nolan movie for me is that it reveals more on a second watching - so Inception good, Dunkirk not so!

Lots of suggestions that this is Nolan's version of a James Bond movie, though I though he sort've did that at the end of Inception, IMO.

A thoughtful, intelligent almost-genre movie? Sounds great!

I think Tenet is more Bond-like (than Inception), especially the first half. Also one of the trailers was No Time to Die - looking forward to that too!

Definitely. The thing I like about Nolan as a filmmaker is he swaps genres (to a degree), but more so he pushes boundaries and makes movies that make you think - and Tenet's no different.

That's true of any piece of art that isn't total trash - and you can glean things (even if it's how NOT to do things) from the most direst of shite the second time around.

Talking of "I Can't Believe It's As Bad As I Remembered", I watched Batman Forever this evening.

It wasn't as bad as I remembered.... it was worse. Amazing cast, godawful script. Some of that dialogue!! Can see why Michael Keeton walked away...

I watched Batman Forever this evening.

From memory, I was out of the cinema and getting on with my day in less than 10 minutes. Truly awful.

Nope. The one before that, with Tommy Lee Jones as Two Face and Jim Carrey as The Riddler. And Val Kilmer woefully miscast.

Am now trying to get the courage to re-watch Batman & Robin (the one with Arnie in it...)
