TV Series or Show You're Watching

God damn it. Why do they always cancel the shows I love and give unlimited seasons to the ones I hate?
I agree, the actress is fantastic. I quite like the dad too, and the appearance of Terry O'Quinn in the cast is just a bonus. Of course it got cancelled. :(
 
The third episode of Raised by Wolves was a bit of a step down; I'm hoping things pick up again.

Also now watched up to episode 4 of Lovecraft Country - it's watchable but I'm thinking the first episode was the best.

And the first episode of season 2 of The Boys was reliably bloody and entertaining!
 
This one's a bit left of field for me, as I usually have absolutely no interest in sports, but I am quite enjoying Friday Night Lights. Considering that it involves American football, I shouldn't like it - but it is keeping me entertained.

Am I sensing desperation or is this projection? Can't find anything new to watch or read (sf novels).
 
You know, I don't remember the Richard E Grant series at all... the last version I remember was the one written by Steven Moffatt and starred James Nesbitt. (Was a bit overrated, IMO.)

This antipathy towards team sports is something that those of us who were perceived as 'bookish' by our peers, is linked, I think, by many who in their youth suffered bullying at the hands of jocks, to a deep-seated dislike of such sports even as spectators many decades later. (my god is that a mess of a sentence. those of you who have in the past suggested that I should try to write fiction can see in that sentence why that is not a good idea)
I have had a harder time enjoying Unseen Academicals by Sir Terry Pratchett, than almost any of his discworld novels and this was due to a perception of it being centred on the game of Foot the Ball. It was only when I got past that preconception on my seconed reading of the book that I could really enjoy the interplay of the minor plots therein.
 
The Jeckyll and Hyde one I mentioned is really good. The effects, the story, the setting - I like the usage of Indian heritage in it. They're also not afraid to let (minor spoiler) major characters die and there can be quite a bit of pathos in it. REG is superb, but then, when is he not - even when he's in a sort of supporting role.

As for sports, some things you just don't have interest in. I like football (soccer to you) and have watched TV series based around it such as Dream Team, Footballers' Wives and The First Team, but American Football (sorry but we don't call it football here - one guy I know calls it Hand Egg) does nothing for me, as does cricket, baseball, F1, golf and so many other sports, so I don't watch programmes about them, and even hate it when my favourite ones feature episodes about them. Some things are just off the table for me.
 
It can be hard keeping them all straight for me it is the 1941 version with Spencer Tracy that was seen on late night tv when I was young

The more I watch Emergence the more I get into it. Damn them for cancelling it. I hate when that happens; I know there's likely to be no pay-off or resolution at the end, and it's like reading one book in a series to find the author died before he or she could write the next. Grrrr!

On a slightly related note (though not really) started watching the dramatisation of Vanity Fair last night. Lasted almost one episode, hated it, deleted it. Never read the book. Probably never will. Seemed pointless.

Finished Emergence. Bit of a cop-out ending but for a series that was cancelled it at least didn't end on a cliffhanger. Kind of relatively satisfying. I can live without its being renewed.

Watched and enjoyed three seasons of Penny Dreadful, now deep into Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and it's superb. The shift from Victorian London to LA in 1938 really works, especially with the nascent World War II on the horizon.

Edit: And I see it was cancelled also.
