Oh I'm watching it in Danish with subtitles. Wait: do you mean the English-speaking parts? I didn't notice any lack of sync but I wasn't really looking for that. I did notice very bad dubs recently on something but I can't think of what it was right now. It'll come back to me.

We were wondering what to watch last night and I was surfing and saw an episode of X-Files running. Flipped into it and said to my wife, "Wow, look at Scully...this must be one of the really early ones".

It was the pilot episode. Gotta be a sign. I feel a binge watch coming on.

No: the Netflix version has a new English dub for the Danish speech that we didn't get when it was on the BBC. The voices are terrible... one of the advisors now has an accent straight out of Geordie Shore/Big Brother...

The subtitled version is better, but the English dub means that you haven't got to stare at the screen all the time. Swings and roundabouts!!

But it started so well!!

When I rewatched it a few years ago, I decided that the thing that changed the series was Gillian Anderson's pregnancy, which coincided with the alien abduction thing and meant that she was in episodes less for a while (understandably!) But eventually it became too convoluted even for me and I bailed at about Season 8 or so...

Watched the first episode of House of Dragon too and quite liked it; never really read the prequels on which it is based so - kind of skimmed them but do not really remember much - so know only vaguely what is to come, the episode hit most all the right notes and set up the things reasonably well - my understanding is that soon there will be a time jump and new actresses will play the main two leads, so will see how this works as the young Rhenira and Allicent were very good; I also thought that pretty much all actors hit it well, with the well-meaning but mediocre Viserys and the impetuous Daemon standing out, so will be watching this as episodes come out and hope as others mentioned that it will wash away the sub-mediocre ending of GoT; and the dragons while still fairly cheesy - not sure if one can depict any dragon and not be cheesy - were still cool

Okay well there are a few things about the titles. First, thank the Great Pixie, they're on a black background, so you're never in danger of missing anything that's said. As comparison, that Irma Vep thing had a lot of subtitles and they were just white over the screen, so if the background was white or light it was hard to read them. Second, for some reason I'm finding the sync between the speech and the subtitles is off: I'd say they come up about a second or a second and a half after the actor has spoken. While mildly annoying, this does give your brain a second to realise hey! Someone spoke, and be more or less ready for the title to come up. I actually find this quite handy. Of course, they're also slow in going off the screen too, which can be confusing. What did he say? Oh yeah; heard that. Let's move on. Finally (and I've never seen this in all the subtitled programmes I've watched over the years) often the last letter is cut off, so you get something like "He won't be at the meetin". Obviously you can fill in the missing letter, but it is weird. Maybe has something to do with aspect ratio? Who knows?

Couldn't finish it - I see them as the GRRM version of Tolkien's Silmarillion.... hard work and not really what was wanted. Which should make my take on the new Amazon series interesting....

Same here. I'd have to subscribe to HBO....not really worth it given how little TV we actually watch.

I now have HBO. My great-nephew is visiting. When I made a comment about Drag., he said "Oh let me put in my code." And he did.
I am really cheap. This replaces the access that I had from my daughter's former father-in-law.
May watch some after the nevvy goes back to North Carolina.

Watched it after everyone else went to bed!
A real mishmagosh. I appreciate the above comment that amounts to understanding their throwing in everything to set the stage. The brutality, personalities of the main characters, conflicts ready to set off the action, a real mish as I said above.
Watching, my history gene kicked in. I remembered that some king of France had died in a jousting tournament (Henry II of France - I looked it up.) They did away with such shows subsequently. However, the tournament they showed had the purpose of full out battle & mayhem, unlikely if they wanted their aristocracy to survive.
Also, the queen's death showed a barbarity far in excess of even our medieval times "Caesarian" refers to a procedure that was known back to the Romans. Julius was born that way. Wasn't always successful, but they knew of it in the Middle Ages. In GOT they just cut her up. Martin wrote of a society based on ours, but far more brutal than medieval Europe. Miz Pogo liked the original GOT, but my encouraging her to watch this will be with a lot of caveats. May be true for me too, depending on later episodes.
But there was a great redeeming feature. The episode ended with Doctor Who riding a dragon!!!

Watched episode 1 of The Sandman. Did not find much to like (apart from Charles Dance). Too...simplistic, Narnia-esque...it looks well-made, but definitely not for me.

Also watched episode 1 of Arcane. Really liked it! Very well executed. Great animation, good story, action-packed fun.

On the one hand it's all very inclusive, YA-oriented and plagued by awkward dialogue - but there's plenty of no-nonsense action and beautifully filmed sequences as well... in that sense, a very authentic rendering of Jordan's books: lots to gripe about -- but an essentially captivating core to it all.

Don't think I made it beyond Path of Daggers...and have no overwhelming desire to watch episode 2 of the televised series...it just has too many marks against it to make the top-10 of 'next things to watch'...but who knows, should Covid strike again...

On the one hand it's all very inclusive, YA-oriented and plagued by awkward dialogue - but there's plenty of no-nonsense action and beautifully filmed sequences as well... in that sense, a very authentic rendering of Jordan's books: lots to gripe about -- but an essentially captivating core to it all.

I found it a bit of a mixed bag. I enjoyed a few of the early episodes but found some of the later ones very awkward - especially the Tar Valon centred ones.

I’m watching Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard, and it’s pretty interesting. I’m enjoying seeing John de Lancie's meddlesome Q return to cause chaos as usual. The cast must deal with his new trial for Jean Luc which involves a path not traveled, a rather dark path indeed. It’s good to see the return of some TNG characters, and it seems there may be even more of them in Season 3.

I like Star Trek - but, and I may be alone in this, I just do not like the Picard character. So a whole series devoted to him...not my cuppa. A shame, because I do very much enjoy Q

Instead, finally got around to watching season 6 of Peaky Blinders. Great series. Perhaps not a great finale, but certainly up to scratch.

The Egg has his moments, but yeah, I'd watch a series about Sisko or Kirk before I'd watch Picard. I'll still watch it though, because Star Trek, but hell, why not a series on Data or even Riker. Who said Geordi? GTFO with that s**t!

Since Paramount has finally realized what a valuable intellectual property they have with the Star Trek Universe, any and all of these things are a possibility! Who would have believed we would have five Star Trek series going at the same time? In addition, there are the supporting documentary episodes of the Ready Room, plus the Short Treks mini-episodes. Doctor Who once had three main shows (Doctor Who, Sara Jane, and Torchwood). They have to have some content to support the Paramount+ streaming service after all…
