Copani Story

Indy suddenly hears a screaching noise of a car and stumbles out the door to see what it was. We he reached the outside, he heard the high cackle of none other the "scahwlette". He watched her reach a building very far down the road. Indy was very much reminded of the similar object, cruella devil...

He sadly looks at Cadfael and says, ”The darnest thing just happened, Scarlet had me help unload the contents of her van into another van.
I though sure no problem. So I finish moving all this heavy equipment and stuff that looks real advanced. Then she smiles at me and asks me to watch the unloaded van for her, as she drives away in the new van. Hey no problem I said to her, mind if I sit in the van, it is a wee bit chilly outside this evening.
So I sit in the van and the next thing I know it explodes! It exploded!!! I didn’t break wind or anything, it just exploded!!!!”

Ogg slumps down at a table and orders a milk…

Cadfeal carries Ogg back into the Inn over his shoulders, and plaops him back into his favourite chair...

"I got your backpack of Sammie... well... okay to be more precise I stole it of Sammie, but it is behind the bar"

Cadfael passes Ogg a foaming milk... and throws in a couple of cupcakes on the house... just because he has had a very traumatic experiance...

"I think that was terribe" he consoles... "who the hell would do that to you!! I blame that Zack dude.. he is always looking at me funny... well okay I know everyone else does... but somehow he does it better. Anyway.. if I were you I would not let him get away with it.. why don't you ask Cruel... erm... Scarlet to help you... I here she has just bought a load of cool stuff for this kind of thing."

Cadfael them ambles over to Zack... "I would keep my eye on Ogg... I think he may have it in for you" he says... and then goes over to Scarlet...

"LOL... you gotta love that Ogg, the way he blew your van up was awsome!!" he tells her...

Finally he sits at e-Morgana table, and orders a drink for her and himself... he notices her black looks in his direaction... "What? Don't look at me like that... nobody throws Streve Irwin in your face and gets away with it!!!!! Gunghis!!!... get extra suppllies in... you know the stuff, bandages, gause, adrenaline, a crash unit"

Scarlett waits patiently from her view point on top of a building a few brownstones away. She has a view of each door to The Friendly Arm Inn. She is a patient woman, having waited over 700 years to get Zack Ryan and his kind!

She has a Ma'hendo'zolic - a blood oath to fulfill. A millennium ago, his people had enslaved her own, and she would not be denied this vengeance.

Melacholy hits poor Scarlett. She allowed herself to become too close to these human and other creatures. Albeit, some more than others, but still they showed her kindness and acceptance. If there were only a way to warn them without giving away her identity and location to that creature Zack.

Scarlett spit for even thinking the term "Copani". It is inconceivable to her that there were sentients in the galaxy who thought Copani were an enlightened species! Once she showed them the data crystals of the horrors they inflicted on whole races, the humans would side with her. There was no doubt in her mind.

e-Copper silently circled overhead, barely causing a breeze for Scarlett to notice. Then ever so gently she alighted. Only the tissue like sound of her graceful wings alerted Scarlett that someone was on the roof with her. Scarlett turned quickly, a strange weapon poised in her hand. "Oh it's you e-Copper. Don't scare me when I'm holding this."'

Before Scarlet's eyes, the transformation back to Elda was wondrous and Elda took a step forward, placing her hand gently on Scarlett's wrist. "Violence has to end somewhere, Scarlett. And you are a good person. Step away now before another generation of violence begins. A single tear slipped before Scarlett wiped it away. "NO!" she spat at Elda. I won't be the one to end it.

Elda went over to a picnic basket she had foreseen to bring, and brought out her Old Country Roses Tea Set. She began to pour and hum. "Tell me about these copani that you hate so much, dear!" said a cool and calm Elda. Scarlett looked at the steaming cup of tea longingly and finally sat only long enough to sip hers. "Elda, they are the most foul creatures you can imagine. Their faces are elongated, much like a crocodile or alligator on earth, and their skin is thick and tough, almost impenetrable with normal weapons. They had red glowing eyes and long retractable claws."

Elda listened patiently and then gently ask "So they are not gold and smooth skinned?" Scarlett nodded 'NO' emphaticaly. ELda continued gently "And their eyes are not a deep rich ebony color reflecting the stars?" Scarlett shook her head and said irritably "NO! I've told you their eyes are deep red from all the millions of people's blood which they have spilled." Taking a sip of her tea, Elda offered gently "The is it feasible that these killers you seak, go by another name than Copani?" Scarlett sighed, like she was explaining to a child 'No. Why would they?"

Elda said gently into the darkness "Alright e-Morgana, bring him here." Scarlett turned towards Elda and then towards the movement of e-Morgana. Then she saw it, the Copani acompanying e-Morgana...................

“Imagine that!” says Ogg standing in the shadow of an alley as he watches the series of events taking place on the roof of the brownstone. ”Darn, Cadfael was right! That Zack fellow is trying to move in on Scarlett, and here e-Morgana and E-berry are helping him!!!” Ogg having seen enough stomps off down the ally devising a way to gain the upper hand on Zack and return the favor of blowing up the van…

Ogg looks over his shoulder at the audience, ”What! I’m telling you I really didn’t pass gas! The van blew up on its own!!!!!”

Hey, watch that tea set, it's priceless! Bumbling fools......
It was not difficult to look imposing when you are 8 feet tall, muscled from living on a planet with the gravity of Jupiter, golden skinned with deep black eyes and totally bald. When you walk you shake the surface you walk on. He stared down on all of them but Cadfael. He quietly contemplated Scarlett and e-Copper and said quietly to Scarlett, "P'Mela, I have been hunting you for most of the 700 years you have been hunting the other Copani. We have been chasing you and just missing you for all those years. You are the last that we needed to find. I need you to trust me long enough to enter my mind and see the truth. You're proficient enough to detect lies and deceits." He looked directly at her and waited for her answer.

Scarlett stared at him and made a decision based on trust the others had in him. Nodding her head she stepped up to him and asked him to sit or kneel and, which he did. She stepped up to him and placed her hands on the sides of his head and began her journey into his mind. When she finally emerged she moved her hands from his head and said "Forgive me, I was positive you were the enslavers and murderers of my people." ZR merely nodded and stood. Turning abruptly, he left the roof, moving silently and swiftly.

Descending to the street, he has reverted back to Zack Ryan and sees a plume of smoke in the distance, from where she had her van parked. He blinks and his vision magnifies and he sees a single being, smoking slightly, walking towards the bar. He smiles, moving off towards his hidden place. He had a schedule of messages to keep and he had much to relay today.

Scarlett's hands shook violently. He had just called her P'Mela, her real name. A name she had not heard in over 700 years. He clearly knew more about her than she knew about him. It was unnerving, to say the least.

She had grown fond of some of these humans. And they all seem to like him and trust him. Perhaps her judgement was in error. But 700 years of relentless hunting gave one little time to engage in self-examination or doubt! If these people thought so much of him, perhaps the best thing she could do is leave him to them. But not totally. She had her cloaked ship in a geo-sync apogee orbit. She could observe her friends from there. And if the stranger made any harmful or warlike moves, she could intervene from there!

Turning to Elda, she thanked her for her kind friendship and teaching her the protocol of tea. Then before she could tear up, something a lady warrior could ill afford, she punched a series of symbols on her bracelet and disappeared into an obsidian wrinkle, leaving Elda wondering what she had just witnessed.

I have my dear, to the table. If you've had enough bossing the board for a while, why not join be at my table and we'll talk about a palace coup, or what ever you want to talk about

A palace coup?? You have my brain ticking over feverishly here Mr Zack Ryan. I'll have to PM you. ;)

In the meantime, thank you for guarding my SC - with all these undesirables about the place, one has to nail everything down.

Do you think we've managed to win Scarlett over to our side yet? Do you think she is going to help us? Do you think we can catch Cad's attention long enough to enlist his help.

"Erm....actually......" stammers Zack, "after Cad's last little effort at being secretive and discrete, I might have to rethink my plans" :D

I'm always available for a good cause! Not necessarily one with "good intentions" but surely ones with "good fun" quotient.

However, I am still a bit shaken from seeing inside Zack Ryan's "mind".........I had NOOOOOOOOOOOO idea such things actually existed!

During the intervening days, P'Mela reviewed every historical document in the ship’s memory. There was nothing to support any of Zack’s shared images. In fact, everything was in conflict! But there was something to Zack’s claims. She could feel it!

Finally realizing that her own government would have programmed the ship with any memories it wanted, she decided to review data-stores that she had purchased from various cultures encountered in her travels. However, the ship’s security protocols would not allow the unauthorized files. After trying to bypass the protocol, unsuccessfully, she decided to use a piece of earth’s rather unsophisticated technology to help her. Keying in the symbols on her bracelet for her intended destination, she picked up her little treasured box of data-stores and left. She rematerialized only seconds later in what earthers called “The International Space Station”. What a joke that was! She had seem the best and the worst space stations and space ports in the galaxy, and this didn’t even rate the name space station. But it did have computer technology she could easily manipulate for her purposes.

After feeding in the data-stores, she entered key words and phrases and had the computer display all relevant findings. Four hours later, she sat stunned at the information she had been able to piece together! From bits and pieces of data from nearly 12 worlds, she had discovered that Zack’s memories he had shared with her were accurate. His people, the Copani, were not the enslavers of her people. They, along with several other allied species, had tried to stop the fall of her own civilization. And why? Because her civilization was one of the few most powerful forces on the cusp of j’Son’jon space. And everyone feared the j’Son’jon Empire!

P’Mela gathered her things, keyed in the symbols for The Friendly Arm Inn. She’d probably find Zack there, and she would share these findings with him. And with the earthers as well. Little did they know that their star was just outside the furthermost regions of the j’Son’jon Empire.

As she was rematerializing in the pub, she decided she would let Zack tell the earthers, if and when he wanted. But she was giving him this information and then leaving in her ship! It was sad in a way. This planet had plenty of sexy males, most of whom she had yet to have carnal knowledge of! Sad really.

P'Mela had stayed close to the Friendly Arm Inn until it blew up and moved with everyone else to the new Den of the Dragon. They all called her Scarlett, as she had intially identified herself, but Elda and e-Morgana had found out her true name when Zack elicited their help to contact her. She had stayed close for two days waiting on his reappearance. P'Mela wanted to share the information she had pieced together, as a courtesy for what he had shared with her. But her anxiety was growing quickly and she wanted to leave.

She would try to justify her leaving without saying anything by telling herself that he probably knew all the data anyway. But it was that one small bit of information found at the very end, that scared her most. She felt honor bound to get it to him. And he had also said the Copani had been searching for her. Why? What did they want with one very small, long range recon vessel? Or with her?

The data crystal felt as if it were burning through the fabric of her slacks today. She didn't know how much longer she could wait before she just left on her ship. During stop over on that last habitable planet, she had purchased information from all current planetary bulletins and news reports. On the back page of one such rudimentary "newspaper" she had discover a small paragraph that read:

Copani along with the Aurora League of Planetary Organization forces have been under attack by the combined forces of the All Planet Alliance and the j'Son'jon Empire. Neutral observers say the new hostilities are over a large region of contested space lying between the four large juggernauts. Our prayers to the Holy One go out to all peoples who will be caught in these newest 'killing fields'. Spatial coordinates had been given for the contested region of space. When P'Mela had checked those coordinates she discoverd that Earth's Sun was smack in the middle of the contested space, which meant Earth was going to be in the middle of the destruction path. The information was already several months old and P'Mela was getting more nervous with each passing hour.

Meanwhile, on the wrong side of the tracks, Earth's resistance fleet was trying to recruit personnel somewhat unsuccessfully. Earth's last best hope fell to the last individual whom one would pick for such an important endeavour.

"So Mr ... Dragon is it? We'd like to give you the helm of this experimental warship designed by an odd character going by the oh so original alias of Mr X (his real name shall remain anonmymous until the cliffhanger aprrox 10 pages from now when the criminal mastermind responsible for all of this shall be revealed). Our psychological profile of you suggests that with the attention seeking streak in you, our offer shall not be refused. You need to assemble a good crew of people, ideally people with experience and charisma- if they're not around, the village idiots of your local pub will do I guess. Be careful with this ship - there's lots of flashy buttons whose functions haven't been determined yet- I think there's an air freshner in there somewhere though."

A technician who bears a remarkable resemblance to e-Morgana walks up to the commander in chief. "Sir, the lastest test report has arrived. As you know sir, the torpedos are powered by compressed gas. We do not have the weapons capability to last through a battle. We have a major problem regarding the running out of gas - we need a supply that can be delivered at a moment's notice for long periods of time. "

Cad, surprised by this opens his mouth- "Sir, I think I may have a solution to your little problem..." (unfortunately for Ogg a few days later, this marked the start of a get fit session under gunpoint just so he could be declared healthy enough to partake in the space program)

Cadfael felt a thump on his rear and tried to ignore it, continuing to formulate plans in his head for the coming fighting. Again a thump and again he ignored it. Now, who could he recruit? He felt the thump again and turned quickly, only to be confronted by a 9 foot high golden alien. Taking himself up to his full height, he stared down at the alien and demanded to know why he was kicking him in the arse.

The alien smiled and said "To wake you up Cad, you're dreaming something and it's making you leak from both ends, and it stinks. Plus you're swinging that big old tail of yours as well." And with that the alien presence left and he saw a giant leg with a huge boot just as it connected with his butt. As he opened his eyes he looked around and saw 1/2 dozen broken tables, e-Morgana, Elda, Gungis and a few others stuck in the rubble of one of the walls. He could smell the unmistakeable odor of gas, like Zack said, from both ends.

Zack walks up to him and looks him in the eye and says, "Hell of a dream you had there my friend, Hell of a dream"

Hell of a dream

Who's spiked Cad's drink? For some reason he appears to think that reality is a dream - keeps babbling something about aliens taking over the world and enslaving human minds.

Do dragons dream of eccentric sheep?

Sounds like you could be the next Philip K Dick with thoughts like that - however the mix of reality and un-reality had combined within the building to create pockets of unstable dreams that flitted throughout, drawing unsuspecting persons into a euphoric sense of mixed realities which drained them of their identity and left them on the cusp of transcedent achievements formed by their former id - this was of course until Cad released the counter-agent gas which only big dragon's can expel and shattered everyone's greatest hopes.

Zack pulled e-Morgana and Elda out of the rubble, leaving everyone else to help themselves. Both e-M and Elda gave Cad a nasty look.

Zack tells both ladies to go sit at his table and he will bring drinks for them. He goes behind the counter and pours the Special Tea for Elda into a thermos flask and grabs a fresh bottle of SC for e-Morgana. As he sits back down he sees Scarlett walk in and glance around. She walks to the table and asks if he can talk to her in private.

Puzzled but not worried, he joins her just outside the bar in the alley. She quickly apologizes for suspecting him, telling him about her search through her ships archives. Scarlett passes him the data crystal, telling him quickly what it contains, then she passes him the obscure newspaper and he reads what she is pointing to. As he finishes, he hands back the paper and leans against the building. "F'anck, this changes everything. This moves the timetable up to the point we may not be able to save this world." He turns, beckoning her to follow. He returns to the table, calling Cad over he explains what Scarlett has just told him.

e-Morgana mutters a very long epithet under her breath and asks quietly what they can do to help. ZR says honestly, "I don't know. With the fleets so close I am going to try and contact the fleet commander." He then turns to Scarlett, saying to her outloud, "You need to try to do the same Boro'Ches P'Mela."
They all looked at him and questioned him, outloud or with facial expressions, "What are you talking about?" Mind to Mind he said to her, P'Mela, we must do what we must, return to your ship and contact your ships in the fleet. We must tell them about this planet."

Boro'Ches P'Mela looked at him and Mind to Mind agreed, but she would have to leave and move beyond Saturn to broadcast. He nodded and she turned and left. Turning back to the group around the table, he quickly answered their questions. After spending almost an hour explaining that Scarlett had taken on the task of hunting down every Copani and disposing of them, they had written songs to her honor, following her exploits for many years. Finally when all but himself were dealt with, she chased him to the point where they thought she must be dead. They erected statues in her honor. She was a folk hero and legend to her people. Finally he stood and he himself left the bar, to go to his ship and begin trying to contact the fleet.

"Our leader, Lord Akman of the j'Son'jon Empire is displeased," the holographic readout flickers as Aik Haw lean back against his swivetting chair as he, along with majority of the crew of the War WarpTrireme watches the tachyon broadcast from 700 light years away, "Our spies indicate that events not favourable to the expansion of the Imperium has occured in sector Y1234948568 X18738478299 Z 837438928374, over a planet some call Earth. It appears that a member of our faction has disobeyed orders and attacked the planet with a lone manned vessel."

The man inhaled as he continued, "Therefore, it is the decision of Lord Akman and the Council of the Infallible to position three War Triremes in the orbit of Earth's moon to stem any attack by the All Planet alliance and the Auroras."

Aik Haw look down as he reached into the Neural Connectivity, accessing the long distance tachyon readout of Earth.

"Pathetic planet," Aik Haw smirked as he pulled out of the Connectivity. "So, P'mela's little Observer Vessel, though she always suffer the delusion that it's a war vessel, had enough weaponary to devastate that planet. What hope do species KJHG173477657 have against us?"

"Hey, our ship is selected to be positioned around that planet." someone's thought rang through the Connectivity.

Great, he kept the his idea to himself, should we now play the game of "crack the planet" as a blue and white globe appeared on the screen. Look, even a basic diplomatic craft can take down all the planet's offenses and defenses in one....

"Warning!! Warning!! Severe gravitonic distortion detected around Earth's Orbit."

"What?" Aik Haw keeled forward as a warp hole spanning 1 light minute gaped across the unbroken space time continuum.

"Oh no!!" someone cried as the bow of a Boat pierced through the distortion.

"The Great Boats!!" The commander of his war trireme gaped.

"Look, the Chariot of Fire!!" as a sliver of gold pierced through the viel.

"No," Aik Haw staggered upwards, his face paling by the seconds, "The Atlantean, the Sky Imperium and the Shangri-lans have arrived."

"Looks like we have the Celestial Emperor to contend with," the woman beside him groaned.

"Maybe we should garner assistance from the All Planet Alliance," the Trireme engineer groaned as the images of dragons circling the fleet of Great Boats filled the screen while Manticores floated alongside the myriad of Chariot of Fires. Skirting on the edges, the graceful wings of the Sky Boats of the Shangrilans flared to life.

"Nonsense," the Weapons Engineer spoke, "The Fleet of the Celestial Emperor must be completely antiquated."

"And on what basis do you make that statement. We lost contact with them for well over 7000 years."

Aik Haw leaned back and sinked into the Connectivity, recalling the history lessons he had as a child.

"The Celestial Emperor," his wizened teacher hobbled in front of the classroom. "Is a mythic figure supposedly possesing great powers and technology. Of course, no evidence that such a being exist that can challenge the integrity of our great Empire. The last contact with the fleet of the Celestial Emperor were a fleet of Shangri-lan Sky Boats fleeing the onslaught of the Yellow Emperor 7000 years ago. Of course, given our level of technology back than, the power they possessed must have seem terrible to our ancestors. Now of course, their technology, if they still exist, is as nothing to ours."

The teacher paused, than continued. "The Celestial Emperor took special note of a species of primitive sentient organisms called Humans. Initially, the Celestial Lords who represents the Sky Imperium descended to Earth and made contact with a primitive race of human existing on a continent called Asia flanked by the Yellow Sea and the China Sea. After mating with the people in their Dragon form, the a new race emerged known as a Han who will found a country called Chung Kou or the Middle Kingdom. These people initially took to the stars but for some odd reason 8000 years ago spurned their Galactic Heritage and took back to live their agrarian lives, and only in the recent 100 years have reached back to the stars."

"The second race are called the Atlanteans who will later found both the civilisation of the Greeks and the Egyptians as well as seeding the mysterious American civilisations. Unlike the Hans who were born from Galactics mating with Primitives than bringing their new race to the stars, the Atlanteans were Primitives turned Galactics and were radically assisted by the Sky Imperium in their later phase. Totally ungrateful to their own benefactors, the people of Europe and the Americas turned against the Atlantean, razing their city under the sea using Atlantean technology but not before the majority of the Atlanteans fled under the wings of the Celestial Emperor. Ironically, the later Greeks and Egyptians would worship leaders of the Atlantean civilisation as their Gods. Unlike the Hans, no living Atlantean blood remains either on the European or American continent."

"Then lastly, comes the Shangri-lans, fearsome as they were Hans who struggled to return to the Stars and succeeded, and later terrorized even their own brothers and sisters in their attempt to make a Star Bridge. Their brief existance on Earth came to a dismal end when their kind resurrected the Lost Star Weapons and brought their reign of tyranny to an end, than later destroying any fragment of star technology from their civilisation!!"

"All these three races have made their mark across the Stars, but alas, has faded from existance. Pity....were they still around we would show them what the j'Son'jon Empire can do to them!!"

Aik Haw fell from his chair as the ship rocked about.

"Look!!" someone cried as they watched a Trireme 0.5 light minutes away crumbling under some invisible onslaught.

"What the..." Aik Haw muttered as a face lifted up from the holographic projector.

"Assailants of the j'Son'jon Empire, we are the of the Imperium, Servants of the Celestial Emperor, the One Above All. Your ships are 250 light years away from the planet of concern and are within warp space firing range. That was a warning shot. Withdraw now or face the wrath of Heaven!!"

Commotion breaks out, "Let's withdraw!!"

Aik Haw narrows his brown eyes as his Han and Imperial blood surges within his veins.

"Younger Brother," a reedy voice trailed across his mind. "We meet again."

Aik Haw turned his head, his mind trained at one of the Great Boats 250 light years away.

"Do not think the battle won yet, you who were once my Elder till you cast me along with everyone else to the mercy of space only to have the j'Son'jon to pick me up and nurse me back to life. I know the string that will unravel your vaunted tapestry."

"You will betray the Way?" the voice replied.

"You've long betrayed yourselves oh Brother, for I know that you use the name of the Celestial Emperor in vain." he murmured. "Beware justice, for The One Above All will come and his might shall ring through the Multiverse against they who dare defy his new race.....the j'Son'jon."

Zack moved up the street to the alley, turning into the alley and moving almost halfway to the other street. He sent a silent command to his runabout and within seconds a small craft appeared next to him in the alley. A door appeared and he reverted to his 8 foot golden skinned normal body and was instantly gone, as was the small vessel. He approached his ship, which was hidden on Phobos. The runabout triggered the landing bay hatch and it silently moved in and landed close to a dozen other ships exactly like it.

He moved from the small ship to the control room of his ship. He sat in the command chair, glad to be back, even if for a short time.
He heard a whisper of a noise and said, "Ontanon, you still need to practice stealth"
The android responded, "Yes sir, you are absolutely correct. May I bring you refreshment?"
"Yes, anything Copani, please."
As the android left to fullfill his duty, ZakRianan, commader of this vehicle and supreme commander of the Copani Expeditionary Forces (of which he was the only one left) ran his hand across several studs and the schematic of his ship appeared on the screen in front of him.

A beam of light emerged from the panel in front of him and split, one half entering each of his eyes and he became as one with the ship. In earth terms, the ship was rounded, with hundreds of projections, antennas, observation nodes and housing for the Mur's. It was almost 15 miles in diameter, there were several red dots throughout the ship and over the next several hours each was dealt with until there were none. He was the only sentient being aboard, everything else were androids, work bots and, of course, the BFD's, the little multi-faceted repair droids.

He reached into the communications area and felt a sensation of his mind sitting down at a desk and composing his message which was sent as soon as he finished. He stood then, stretching his 8 foot body and again dawning his clothing.

He had eaten well and was satisfied, Moving back to the runabout, he entered the ship and left, landing in the alley once again and sending the small ship back to it's waiting area.
