I found some Serenity news for you:

The characters of Badger and Saffron will not be in the film, however ALL nine main cast members will appear.

Filming starts early June for ten weeks for a projected release "early next year". The budget, previously listed as $35m, is actually about $50m. The deal they have with Universal precludes another TV show - so a revival ain't gonna happen. The plan is, if the film does well enough, to have a trilogy of films.

Just kidding, I am not that shallow. Van Helsing is based on the character in Stoker's dracula, the vampire's nemesis.

Seeing the trailers I wonder if the film has any connection to Stoker's character save the name. Van Helsing was an eastern European (with a distinct accent) academic and medical man in Stoker's book. This dude seems more like a recycled Indiana Jones.

Thanks for the info Kanin. I am a bit concerned that a trilogy of films won't hold the momentum of the TV series, or allow for much character development, but beggars can't be choosers and something is better than nothing!

Oh, and Ravenus, I think the director/writer of Van Helsing sacrificed A Lot in the name of action. From what I can see there are lots of different characters from different tales and books etc popping up here there and every where!

Yep, they've gone and turned him into a Victorian version of "Blade".
It has vampires, werewolves and Frankenstien's monster, oh my!

The clips I've seen show they've gone for total CGI special effects, which is not a good thing IMO as hate it when EVERYTHING is done in CGI.

There's already a stack of merchandise out for it (action figures, T-shirts) as well as a game for X-box and PS2 planned.

Well: they turned Dracula into Van Helsing and I, Robot into a shootout between a smart-mouthed Will Smith and a few hundred robots. We ought to thank our lucky stars Hollywood got LoTR right instead of transforming it into another Battlefield: Earth.

Seriously, looks like a big steamy pile of Hollywood blockbuster. Pee-Yue.

I wish White Wolf would sell a license for some movies based on their werewolf: the apocalypse storyline. I always found the setting and theme of that game to be cool in the greatest extreme of the word. Don't imagine fast food tie-ins or other corporate merchandising would be too doable though with that story . Either that or the whole thing would get subverted. (Battle the Wyrm with a Mcdonald's Happy Meal! Complete with synthetic ceremonial glaive and touch-toxic tattoo paint!)

It's a common mistake I think to forget that the doctor's name was Frankenstein and not the creature he created (who is just known as "the monster")

Van Helsing looks like it was knocked together by the same people who brought us "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", whereby they combined a load of Victorian era horror characters to make a sort of superhero, crime fighting force.

Sorry if you're already aware of this but LoEG was originally a comic-book (or graphic novel if you prefer) series written by Alan Moore.

Well once upon a time I saw the director saying he was doing pretty much what he'd done with the Mummy, dust of an OLD movie classic, throw in some CG and put on noisy ads so people would go see it. Not my style. I'm all for Victorean Area adventure flicks, but there's gotta be better stories out there people could do than that. Man, if someone put their mind to it they could come up with a NEW monster/monsters/cabal of evil scary people.

I still want my werewolf movie though.

A brilliant movie for such a meager budget. I loved the Machivallian(sp?) aspects of the colonel and the description of what a wolf and a dog are. Well acted and thrilling. Saw on the Sci-Fi Channel, the only good movie that they have shown in a while.

Films I'm really looking forward to now that I've seen Troy:

-The Village, which looks to be another spectacular offering from Shyamalan.

-King Arthur

-Alexander (despite Colin Farrell who is horribly miscast)

-Chronicles of Riddick

-I Robot

-The Alamo

And on a different enote, no one should be looking forward to Van Helsing, because that was easily the worst movie I've seen this year. Dreadful.

I was looking forward to this, but with all the reveiws like this I've been seeing, I don't know. Beyond this, looking forward to the new Harry Potter, Chronicles of Riddick, Spiderman 2, and The Village. That Shyamalan one looks creepy, on par with his style. These should all be pretty good. I'll wait to here more on Alien vs. Predator before I make a decision on that one.

I have missed any information on the new King Arthur film - Clive Owen is a brilliant actor though so I am sure it won't make my blood curl like 'excalibur' and 'camelot' and 'first knight' (which I didn't even watch) did. Shudder.

I just watched the trailer - can't really say I'm very impressed. But that needn't mean anything to you at at all - I was one of those people who liked and still like Excalibur. It might be strange, awkward and disjointed - but it is also quite brave and wondrous, in my opinion. The opposite of a film such as First Knight.

Yeah I did see Dog Soldiers, and it was a pretty fun movie, wish my buddy Trev had been around to see it with me.

Never really understood the reasoning behind that movie. Making Arthur an old man, instead of the virile king, just made me scratch my head. I mean, I can see why! They had Richard Gere(who stick to more modern set movies) and Sean Connery, plus trying to make Julia Ormand a star(which has failed miserably). But still, the movie had no energy and the dialogue was so slanted, it fell of the screen. Good thing that I saw it on cable.
