I don't think it's unscrupulous for thim to persue a different storyline for a book. I found it refreshing, actually! (assuming you mean Pillars of Creation) It's not as if he led us to believe that the book would be about Richard/Kahlan etc or anything...
 
You are correct Sammie, my memory is failing once again. I mean the latest novel.
 
Well unsrupulous probably isnt the right word, but to be so close to the finish (lets face it there can't be much left to write about) and then decide that instead of finishing to go off on a complete tangent for a whole book is not really very fair to the reader, especially those who are eager for it to finish.
 
LOL. He's writing for our money, not for us. And why shouldn't he? We don't HAVE to buy the books :).
 
Some people write for the love of the craft. Let's hope this is why Goodkind keeps writing.
 
I honestly believe this is why he wrote Wizards First Rule - a fundamental urge to tell his story...but recently I think maybe he's been struggling for ideas more.
 
Thats exactly why he should finish the series and move onto something new. I mean hes a fairly good author writing a new series wouldnt be too hard, probably easier than keeping tSoT series going
 
I dunno - i mean i'm sure he COULD do sth new, but it's gotta be easier for him if he just carries on with the world system that he has already designed - as opposed to starting over....
 
Yes but easier isnt necessarily better. He is going to start losing fans if he keeps antagonising us like this
 
Very true - and yet, he doesn't need all of us - just a significant proportion :D

Is easy money for him atm. Eventually he's gonna have to change his method, tho, I think...
 
Yes, and the sooner the better, especially for him, he needs to keep a very strong fan base if he wants any future work ot be sucessful, and he is in danger of losing that fan base if he continues the series too much longer
 
Which is why I appreciate those authors who always create new worlds or at the very least, new surroundings from that same world, i.e. Guy Gavriel Kay, Mary Wells, Robin Hobbs, etc.

At least they're working hard for the money...
 
Maybe it's me but isn't Robin Hobb's world look like Alaska? (see map)
 
For me Goodkind and Weis and Hickman (W&H) represent opposite methods of writing series. W&H tend to create a whole new world every five or so number of books, while Goodkind tends to stay put rather than re-creating everything. At least for me I tend to prefer the Goodkind approach. What do you think?

I like new worlds. Since I'm not too fond of old "imitation Middle Ages" fantasyworld approach, I'm not thrilled with Goodkind's world. I think he should move on, if he doesn't have anything new to say.

You know, in a sense, this maks Goodkind somewhat smarter than these guys....:D
 
And which is why I won't interfere if FF ever decides to string up NoGoodkind like a varmint that he is...

Goodkind just HAS to be a made up pen-name. Has to be.
