Sometime this fall I took advantage of the Borders 40% off Boxed sets and got I Claudius on DVD. I had it on VHS, and have now been able to replace it at a very reasonable price.

I also got Mulholland Falls and The Painted Veil.

My latest DVDS:

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. I got the 2 disc Limited Edition. It has behind the scenes and making of docs, very good if too short. Also has out takes, and bloopers. There is more Keith in the docs than in the film.

Didn't see the movie in the theatre. It was slower and had less Jack. Not sure having Barbossa in it was a good idea. Didn't like the ending for Elizabeth's dad or Commander Norrington. I wonder if there will be more, the movie didn't seem to end with a wrapped up feeling.

Blade Runner: The Final Cut (4 discs). Wanted the 5 disc set with the Workprint version, but it was too pricey. Maybe later (used). Got it mostly for the Original version (Voiceover). Have yet to watch the Final Cut, or the docs, too happy to have the original back (had a VHS, but it was oop in DVD).

Erik The Viking They finally put this out of DVD, but the bastards recut it, so it is now 79 minutes and was 125. They should have at least included the original. But its still better than nothing.

I got the LOTR extended edition box set for christmas. Sadly I'll have to send it back, as the second disc of ROTK is actually one of the appendices discs, only in German.


I might buy the Green Mile next time I'm in town. Never has a film made me so emotional.

I just bought The Mysterious Cities of Gold boxset. For people who didn't grow up in the 80s this is a French/Japanese cartoon series set in 1532. Spanish boy named Esteban joins a voyage to the New World in search of the Cities of Gold. He hopes to find his father, from whom he was separated on being rescued from a sinking ship by Magellan's expedition. On arrival in South America Esteban and his companions begin uncovering evidence relating to the Cities of Gold and various ancient technologies, and also become deeply embroiled in a conflict between the Spanish, the native populations and a lost race called the Olmecs. The boxset contains all 39 episodes with the picture and sound restoredon on 6 DVDs packed with special features. I've watched 9 episodes so far and it's as good as I remember.

Well, they like it at Amazon.

And looking around there my brother will be most pleased that they're about to release Star Fleet, which he enjoyed nearly as much as the Gerry Anderson series (and more than Terrahawks.)
