I Just Bought (DVD)

I haven't posted my DVDs in a while, not sure if some of these have already been posted.

I am still trying to get DVDs of all the stuff I had in VHS (and of course there is something new, but I am not converting again.)

I also got an email from Barnes & Noble about a $10.00 sale, where if you buy 2 you get the 3rd free. Turns out is was only on line, but I went to the store and picked up a bunch.

What! No!!!! What is this new thing? And please can we all boycott it? I am not upgrading my movies AGAIN....Still looking for some of my VHS's on DVD...
 
There's Blu Ray, but as I understand it, the players will be backwards compatible to play DVDs.
If they don't do that, I have no intention of following either.
At that point, the argument that what do I need all this sh-stuff for, becomes compelling.
 
Yes Blu Ray was what I meant. In terms of compatibility, isn't it a tiny disc ? I know I have seen something (Video) that was much smaller. How will a player do both ?

In any event, I am not converting again.

all four films are some of the best i have seen in years.

pans and children of men are the highlight of the four though, totally original and brilliantly executed.

The first season of "Murder One" - gripping stuff! Stanley Tucci has to play Littlefinger or Varys or some such charcater in the HBO ASoIaF adaptation.
 
The latest DVD I picked up was a 2 for 1.

I got the series 1&2 boxset of Battlestar Galactica a few days ago after being blown away by the first half of series 3 and the mini-series. Best sci-fi sereis I have ever seen.:D

I just ordered season three of Deadwood (TV series on HBO) -- as a whole, it wasn't as satisfying as the first two seasons, but individual episodes were excellent.

Also bought Pan's Labyrinth after renting the movie from Netflix. I figured Netflix would whine if I kept the movie forever. :)

Now I need to buy The Devil's Backbone. I've seen it and loved it but the disc I had didn't have commentaries.

In the Labyrinth commentaries, del Toro talks about Backbone, the similarities in style, etc., and how it was intended to be a companion piece. So now I need to see Backbone again, watch for the stylistic stuff he did.

I thought Season 2 was better than season 1, and thought Season 1 was one of the best TV shows I'd seen in quite a while.
I thought they dropped the ball in the third season. They seemed to lose touch with a number of the characters. Dopey things started to happen. I stopped watching. It was if David Milch had moved on to working on his surf show John From Cinncinati and lost interest.
I discontinued premium cable so I don't know if that show is any good. And I'm not watching much TV these days anyway...
