Good books. Just so you know Bloody Bones is number 5 in the series. It is one of my faves but if you are going in order:

1. Guilty Pleasures (GP)
2. Laughing Corpse (LAC)
3. Circus of the Damned (COD)
4. Lunatic Cafe (LUC)
5. Bloody Bones (BB)
6. The Killing Dance (TKD)
7. Burnt Offerings (BO)
8. Blue Moon (BM)
9. Obsidian Butterfly (OB)
10. Narcissus in Chains (NIC)
11. Cerulean Sins (CS)

The plot and AB and her life change a lot through the books, so you may want to read them in order.

Thanks for the info :). I did realise I had gotten one out of order, but I got them as an offer :)
Good to see some good feedback on the series though, I quite liked the first book, so now looking forward to reading the rest :)

Over the festive season I accidentally bought some books:

The Grey Prince by Jack Vance
Chicks in Chainmail edited by Esther M Freisner
Baudilino by Umberto Eco
Stupid White Men by Michael Moore
The Life of Pi ? Can't remember the author
The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency

I have read the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency. Glad I bought it. I have dipped into Chicks in Chainmail, and there are a lot of good authors who have contributed - I bought it second hand, so I doubt it is still in print. Ditto with the Jack Vance.

I love browsing, but buying and taking a book home....is so much fun!:)

I'm putting in an order at Amazon for these books soon. Please let me know if any are duffers, so can take them off the list.

White Apples - Jonathan Caroll
Kushiel's Chosen - Jacqueline Carey
Child of the Prophecy - Juliet Marillier
The Portait of Mrs Charbarque - Jefferey Ford
The Bone Doll's Twin - Lynn Flewelling
Across the Nightengale Floor - Lian Hearn
The Worm Ourobos - ER Eddison
The Book of the New Sun - Gene Wolfe
American Gods - Neil Gamian
The Curse of Chalion - Lios McMaster Bujold

However, sorry to say I generally stay clear of Gemmell
I do too, but I've already read this one an knew it was excellent, his best book IMO and it was free. (3 for 2, had already bought two.)

Kushiel's Chosen - Jacqueline Carey

Did ya read Kushiel's Dart first?

Well, as I pointed out in another thread, I recieved a lot of books for Christmas:

"Edgar Allen Poe: The Complete Tales and Poems"
"The Barbed Coil" by J.V. Jones
"The Baker's Boy" by J.V. Jones
"On Writing" by Stephen King
"2001: A Space Odyssey" by Arthur C. Clarke
"Orion" by Ben Bova
"Running With the Demon" by Terry Brooks
"Seventh Son" by Orson Scott Card

I also spent the money I recieved for Christmas and bought:

"Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown
"The Black Chalice" by Marie Jakober (the rare gothic mosaic-like cover version)
"Heroes Die" by Matthew Woodring Stover
"Blade of Tyshalle" by Matthew Woodring Stover

The Stover books are excellent. The Barbed Coil is my favourite Jones book, but I do know that a lot of other people don't like it that much. Haven't read any of the others.

The Hobbit BBC Radio Dramatization
Legends II
The Witch Queen by Jan Siegel
Assassin's Edge by Juliet McKenna
The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian by Robert E. Howard

Veniss Underground by Jeff Vandermeer. Pleasantly surprised to find this a my local mega book store.

The Book of the New Sun - Gene Wolfe

Don't think this is bad (duffer ?), but it is probably only two of the four books that make up the series. I have not seen any books that have all four stories in them. Not sure what you have available in Ireland/UK. You might want to order both sets to get all four - or at least make sure the volume you are buying has the two you are looking for.

1 & 2: The Shadow of the Torturer/the Claw of the Conciliator
3 & 4: Sword of the Lictor and the Citadel of the Autarch

There is also a stand alone that was published after the other 4:

The Urth of the New Sun

It is generally printed by itself

Recent buys-

Lord of Emperors- Sarantine Mosiac Book II- Guy Gavriel Kay
H.P. Lovecraft Omnibus II
Heroes Die- Matthew Woodring Stover. ( I don't think this has had a proper release in Australia so I though I should grab it when I saw it in a second hand shop, after all the hooplah in this forum).

I should be picking up Michelle West's Sun Sword today... and ordering a few J. Gregory Keyes novels.

my latest January books:

Thief of Lives (PB) by Barb and JC Hendee
Heirs of Earth (PB) by Sean Williams and Shane Dix
The Battle of Evernight (PB) by Cecilla Dart-Thornton
Infernal Angel (PB) by Edward Lee
Only Call Us Faithful (PB) by Marie Jakober

Today was a non-fiction day:

Jarhead : A Marine's Chronicle of the Gulf War and Other Battles (TP) by Anthony Swofford

A selection of my local Fiction group for March.

1421: The Year China Discovered America
(TP) by Gavin Menzies

An amatuer historian's theory of the past. Some call it a pseudo-history but still worth a look.

From Jesus to Christ (TP) by Paula Fredriksen.

This is a look at the historical Jesus and the Origins of the New Testament Images of Jesus. I went looking for it because PBS in my area is replaying the four part series and it is fascinating to see how Christianity changed as it went from the crucifixtion to the religion we know today.

Tigana - GGK
Lions of Al-Rassan - GGK
Assassin's Apprentice - Robin Hobb
Royal Assassin - Robin Hobb

Non-Fantasy books:
Porno - Irvine Welsh
Pale Blue Dot - Carl Sagan
Billions and Billions - Carl Sagan
Odyssey (new translation) - Homer

Non-Fantasy Books : Odyssey (new translation) - Homer

This is a very debatable subject, Fader, but I've always considered The Illiad and the Odyssey to be fantasy. After all, they are mythology and mythology is pretty much fantasy.

Just picked up Zelazny's The Great Book of Amber...all 10 Amber books in a single volume. Nice hefty book!

I picked up Wit'ch Fire by James Clemens and The Ill Made Mute by Cecilia Dart-Thornton today at a used bookstore.

Also, I thought Conqueror's Moon by Julian May looked interesting, so I've ordered it from SFBC.

I just bought -

The next two books in the Nightrunners series by Lynn Flewelling, and Heroes Die by that Stover blokey which everyone goes on about on this forum. It had better be good :p
I had my fingers burnt by Talion Revenant, but I shall trust general opinion another time- Plus it will be nice to know what everyone is going on about!
