When you get a chance to read the "Faded Sun" trilogy, let us know what you think. There's been some debate around here recently about that series, and I'd be interested to get your take on it.

Cool haul Intensity. :)

If you like the Cherryh books, several of them are the start of series. I will list them for you in case you need to rush out and buy them immediately after reading the books you have. :D

Foreigner is the first book in the Foreigner series. It started as a trilogy but has since expanded to 6 books and 3 more are planned.

They are:

Foreigner
Invader
Inheritor

So far they are the best of the lot. The second trilogy is a bit bland and not much really happens.

Precursor
Defender
Explorer

The Chanur Saga is 4 books and has great aliens, and is also incredibly funny.

The Pride of Chanur
Chanur's Venture
The Kif Strike Back
Home-Coming

Angel with a Sword is a novel that is the first book in a shared world anthology called Merovingen Nights. It is similar to Heroes in Hell, and Thieves' World - where there is an agreed upon place and different authors write storylines and characters and the stories are woven together. They were popular for a time in the 80s.

The 7 books are:

Festival Moon
Fever Season
Troubled Waters
Smuggler's Gold
Divine Right
Flood Tide
Endgame

CJ Cherryh is listed as the editor but she also has characters and stories in the book.

Good luck and enjoy.

Just got In The Presence Of Mine Enemies by Turtledove and Darwins Radio by Greg Bear? Hmm debating wheter I should get Darwins Children as well.

I would read "Darwin's Radio" first, and only get "Darwin's Children" if you like it. I've read both, and they are both very much the same, so if you like one, you'll probably like the other.

Just came back from my favorite used bookstore:

Schismatrix by Bruce Sterling
The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester
Antartica by Kim Stanley Robinson

I just received:
Harry Harrison - In Peril
Harry Harrison - Triumphant

They are part 2 and 3 of the Stars and Stripes Trilogy. I read part one and I really like alternate history so I thought I could just as well finish the trilogy (although I'm a bit worried that I might encounter a lot of American Patriotism...because of the trilogy's name)

I really want to get some of Harry Harrison's works. I saw him recently at a con in Ireland and was was great. Had some really good stories on the industry

I've been told Harry's great at conventions. Must be that Irish 'gift of the gab'. :D

If you were looking for good ones to read, I'd suggest his Stainless Steel Rat books for SF with humour (though the later ones are not as good IMO). I think I prefer his short stories, though - his most recent collection 50 at 50 is pretty good!

Hobbit

I finally decided to get a subscribtion to Analog. (The dollar - euro exchange rate is pretty neat at the moment :D )

I just bought:

From the UK:

Untied Kingdom by James Lovegrove, PB
Recursion by Tony Ballantyne, TP

Special Order:

Beautiful Soup, A Novel for the 21st Century by Harvey Jacobs, TP

In the future people are barcoded and all interaction and commercial transactions use the barcode. In a freak twist the main character's barcode identifies him as a can of soup.

Picked up Second Nature by Cherry Wilder (1986 MMPB) for the princely sum of 60 cents. Would be interested if anyone has any comments about this author.

Man, Ficus, most of the time I've never heard of your books. I feel so uninformed...

I received two books I ordered by Geoff Ryman:
The Child Garden : A Low Comedy
Air : Or, Have Not Have

My scifi section is growing nicely, especially considering I'm not reading much recently. Got to satisfy the reading urge by buying. ;)

Intensity, Geoff Ryman rocks. I want to read Air very badly but it's not out in Australia until next year. Might splash out and order a copy from amazon.

Well I browse on-line (besides the SF sites, Amazon is a great tool for finding new stuff) and when following a primary lead (Lovegrove's current book) often follow links to other books (the one I bought), so I end up with books and authors I have never heard of either. :D I also have recommendations from friends (Jacobs).

I too like Geoff Ryman, and have Air but not yet read it. I have also heard that Child Garden is very well thought of, but haven't seen it here myself.

Heaven. :D I remember when I was faced with brand new empty bookcases, waiting to be filled with decades of pushed-aside book dreams: I spent months on Amazon following lead to link to lead into the wee hours. The thrill of the hunt, tracking down those gems...

I just got:

Prometheus Road by Bruce Balfour, PB
Crossing the Line by Karen Traviss, PB

A nice haul from the used bookstore:

William Gibson:
Burning Chrome
Count Zero
Mona Lisa Overdrive
Virtual Light
All Tomorrow's Parties

Ursula K. LeGuin:
The Lathe of Heaven - time for a reread
The Left Hand of Darkness - time for a reread

Cordelia's Honor, Bujold
Synners, Pat Cadigan

Inspired by Neuromancer once again I bought the following, the first 4 by authors with a talent for recognizing the pulse of current technology and other cultural trends:

Diary - Chuck Palahniuk
Choke - Chuck Palahniuk
Lullaby - Chuck Palahniuk
Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World - Haruki Murakami

The Ultimate Cyberpunk - Pat Cadigan

I loved Burning Chrome.

I just read Richard Harland's The Black Crusade and it was sensational. I recommend it if you quite liked Pratchett but thought he could get a bit darker and a bit more realistic.

Now I'm almost finished The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K Dick. Another sensational book.

Apparently Veniss Underground is in the mail for me to review and Less Than Human is with it as a chrissy pressie... great!
